Disclaimer: Don't own
Summary: Two years later, Chloe runs into Sam, and he just doesn't know what to make of the dangerous bitch she's become. But her bad attitude and edgy clothes aren't what he has the most trouble adjusting to. Lex Luthor is.
Lex was in his element, ordering the 'new recruits' around with authority.
Mercy leaned in the corner, expressions neutral, but her eyes were dark and bothered. She kept sending Chloe glances out of the corner of her eye, before shaking her head and looking away.
Sam sat down on the chair, watching Chloe.
She lay on the sofa, pale, silent, looking up at the ceiling.
Half an hour had passed since Chloe had told that man to kill himself, and while she'd been smiling serenely most of the time after that, as the time passed that smile had melted into an emotionless expression on her face. Her eyes were dark and stormy, her face pale, her features emotionless as she gazed up above her. One hand griped at her stomach, as if she was feeling ill and yet refusing to show it on her face.
Sam continued to watch her, worried.
Lex finished and came towards Chloe, sitting down next to her, causing her to move and rest her head on his lap. "You did a good job, going for the leader. Kill the one in charge and the others will surrender, thus there will be no more unnecessary bloodshed."
"I know." She whispered, still staring up at the ceiling, expressionless. "Checkmate."
Sam was getting really annoyed at how they kept referring to everything as if it were some sort of game.
Lex gazed down at her, fingers caressing her hair. "When you were messing with the frequencies in Vince's head, did you sense anything off on the others? Anyone fighting you more than the others?"
She was silent for a moment before she blinked, a stray tear silently falling down the side of her face.
Sam closed his hands into tight fists, willing himself to stay there.
He wouldn't do Chloe any good if he lost his temper and got himself killed.
"The tall one." She whispered, gaze still up at the ceiling. "The one with the beard."
Lex wiped at her tears. "I don't want more blood to be shed."
Chloe's eyes closed. "I'll fix him for you."
"Thank you." Lex smiled, leaning down and pressing a kiss to her lips. "You're saving his life."
Sam's nails pierced the skin of his palms.
She kept her eyes closed.
The phone rang.
Mercy pushed away from the desk and went to answer it. "Lex Luthor's phone." She paused. "Okay, I'll come to get him." Hanging up she looked at Sam. "Your brother's jet just landed."
He narrowed his eyes. "That was fast."
"We have the fastest planes in the air." Lex announced, coaxing Chloe into a sitting position and for her to open her eyes. "Is it wearing off?"
Chloe nodded, looking up at him, eyes shiny.
He cupped her face and kissed her forehead. "Why don't you lay down and rest a bit before I send that man in to you?"
She looked down and nodded. "Sure."
Mercy left, the doors swinging closed behind her.
"I have some things to do now that we have new personnel." Lex stood. "Will you be all right by yourself?"
"Of course." She spoke, nodded.
"Good." Lex smiled, standing.
He walked out of the room, the doors closing behind him.
Sam turned to Chloe the moment the doors closed.
But she wasn't there, she was already halfway towards the other room, rushing through the doors.
Worried, Sam stood and hurried after, going passed the luxurious bedroom towards the bathroom, and the sound of violent retching.
Inside the bathroom, he hesitated, watching as she bent over the toilet, throwing up.
His heart hurt.
Going towards her, Sam knelt, rubbing the small of her back soothingly. "That's it, it's okay."
Her body shook, and when she was finished she leaned heavily against the toilet before flushing it and turning so that she was sitting on the ground. Her kohl was running heavily, her skin pale, Chloe seemed unable to look at him.
"I'm sorry you had to see that."
Sam cleared his throat. "Since when can you do that? Mess with people's minds?"
"A couple of months after I came back I was finally successful in an attempt." She stood and went to the sink, grabbing a new toothbrush and tearing it out of its pack, using it to brush her teeth before rinsing out her mouth and looking at her reflection. "Lionel always guessed that I would be able to mess with the electro magnetic current in people's brains, and when I was brought back I was trained for it. Think of everyone's brains as computer's and I'm the ultimate hacker." She turned towards Sam, face emotionless. "I could rewire your brain right now and make you do the most terrible things with a smile on your face."
"Like the red meteor rock does you?" He asked.
She looked away, as if slapped. "Yeah."
Sam took in a deep breath before going towards her, reaching out and cupping her face, slowly turning her so that she was looking up at him. "Chloe, this isn't you."
"Yeah, it is." She whispered, gazing up into his eyes with such sadness that he couldn't keep away, stepping into her personal space, thumb caressing her cheek. "The person you saw there, that's me Sam, that's me now."
He shook his head. "No, the person vomiting in the toilet is the girl I know."
Her features morphed in a second's flash of agony as she looked away, schooling her features to as neutral as she could. "Lex is a good man. He-he's looking out for me. If-if he has control he can stop everything."
"You can't really believe that Chloe." Sam whispered, urgent, his hands going to her shoulders. "He's making you kill."
She looked up, eyes narrowed, jerking out of his hold and walking around him. Putting some distance between them, she hugged herself. "He's not making me kill. I choose to do that on my own." She looked away, rubbing her arms up and down, as if cold. "I owe him my life, my freedom! I owe him everything Sam. I will never be able to pay that debt."
"This isn't a life Chloe! And you're not free!" He snapped, turning to face her. "You're even more a slave than you were when you had that goddamned collar!"
Chloe's hand shot out and connected sharply with Sam's cheek, the force of the blow causing his face to swing.
They stared at each other, neither moving.
Sam didn't know who'd moved first, but suddenly she was in his arms, legs wrapped around his waist, and he was pressing her into the wall, their lips moving fiercely, angrily against the other's. Chloe's fingers combed through his hair before she clutched her fingers in the brown silk, bucking against him.
She tasted of toothpaste, but it was still minty sweet.
He groaned, taking the kiss deeper, tongue claiming every inch of the inside of her mouth.
Mint had never been this good.
It was only when she was beginning to undo the buttons of his shirt that Sam regained control over himself and lowered her to the ground, taking a couple of steps back. His heart throbbed, along with other parts of his body, as he breathed heavily and ran a shaky hand over his hair as he tried to calm himself.
Chloe leaned heavily against the wall, eyes closed, lips swollen and slightly apart.
A blush dusted over her chest as it rose and fell with every breath, and it crept up her neck, sprinkling over her cheeks and nose.
She was so beautiful.
Chloe's green eyes slowly opened, eyelashes fluttering darkly against the pink of her cheeks.
He wanted to kiss her again.
But he took in a deep breath and looked away. "We can't do this. You're still under the influence and I will not take advantage-."
"You-that is what's bothering you?" She asked, confused, eyes wide as she leaned heavier against the wall. "You just saw a man kill himself after kissing me-and you're worried about taking advantage of me?"
Sam turned to look at her once more at the hitch in her voice.
Tears were welling in her eyes as she laughed, the sound broken. "Sam, you've never had any sense of self-preservation, have you?"
"Chloe-." He began.
She raised her hand, cutting him off, before walking around him to the sink, turning on the water.
The door to the room could be heard banging open.
"Who the hell do you fucking psychopaths think you are just walloping me-?" Dean's snarl could be heard in the other room.
"Oh shut up already you whiny infant." Mercy growled in annoyance.
Chloe took in a deep breath. "Could you please get in between them before they tear each other apart?"
"I probably should." Sam didn't want to leave her alone though. "Chloe-."
"Please." She whispered, leaning over the sink. "I need a moment before I can face him."
Sam sighed before nodding, leaving.
