Summary: Two years later, Chloe runs into Sam, and he just doesn't know what to make of the dangerous bitch she's become. But her bad attitude and edgy clothes aren't what he has the most trouble adjusting to. Lex Luthor is.
Chloe didn't remember falling asleep, but she awoke like she usually did-wrapped up in Lex's arms as he slept peacefully.
This was yet another thing he did for her, had been doing since he freed her.
He kept away the nightmares that plagued her dreams.
Chloe smiled and cuddled closer, seeking that human contact, closeness, that she craved so desperately.
Lex murmured something in his sleep and pulled her closer.
She was going to be seventeen soon.
He'd promised he'd make a woman then.
He loved her.
He wasn't using her.
Tess didn't know what she was saying.
And yet that seed of desperation lodged itself deep in Chloe's soul, clawing at her viciously, snarling, howling, crying. She gulped.
He loved her.
The blonde slipped out of Lex's arms and out of the room, in desperate need of coffee.
Her body was thrumming, begging, for a dose of the 'red cocktail', as she liked to call it.
Every day her body begged for it...begged for the numb oblivion it gave her...but Chloe was used to denying herself what she wanted, so she was usually able to withstand the cravings.
The only time she broke was after using a ridiculous amount of her power...
...Or during a very stressful time.
Chloe licked her lips.
She needed that coffee badly.
She looked up, surprised to see Sam up, drinking a steaming cup of black brew. "Morning.
She felt self-conscious, wearing only one of Lex's shirts, hair a mess.
"Do you always sleep in his room?" Sam asked softly.
"When I'm not away on a mission." She answered honestly, pouring herself some much needed nectar of the gods. "How did you sleep?"
"I managed." He nodded, gaze lowering to her cup. "I think Dean and Tess slept together."
Chloe choked on her first sip of the day. "What?"
"I'm thinking it was hate sex." Sam admitted, smiling a conspirator's smile.
Chloe blinked. "Are you serious?"
"Well, the bed was shaking and I heard a lot of insults being thrown back and forth." Sam sighed. "I had to grab my earphones around four when I just couldn't take it anymore."
Chloe shook her head, darkly amused by the turn of events. "At least someone is getting some."
Sam choked on his coffee.
The teenager chuckled, taking a sip of hers.
They sat like that, is companionable silence, and drank their coffee.
An hour later Lex appeared, bathed and looking incredible as he came over to hug her from behind.
Pressing a kiss to the back of her head, Lex breathed in her scent. "I don't like waking up along in bed."
She didn't like waking up alone either.
From childhood she'd known that there was safety in numbers.
She remembered waking up with Lana and Lois crammed into her little bed because they felt safer being able to wake up and feel the other's heartbeats...knowing that they weren't alone.
"You're a big baby." She teased, turning slightly to press a kiss to his waiting lips.
"Nonsense." Lex pretended to be insulted, before turning to Sam. "I trust you slept well."
"Not as well as you, I suppose." Sam responded flatly.
Lex smirked. "Of course you didn't."
Chloe looked between them, wondering at the undercurrent of the conversation.
Her eyes narrowed. "If you two are referring to me as some sort of sleeping aid I'll be so pissed off I'll mix up your brainwaves in such a way that you'll be gagging for each other."
Sam dropped his cup of coffee and then stood up, cursing, as he was burnt.
"Are you okay?" Chloe gasped, shrugging Lex off rapidly as she rushed to the sink and grabbed a glass. Filling it with water she yanked a rag and then went to Sam, throwing the water at his crotch.
He gasped in shock.
Chloe was never sure it was because of the cold water or because of the fact that she'd sunk to her knees in front of him and begun...wiping at him...with the cloth.
He'd let out a choked sound, going rock still, and for a couple of minutes she hadn't know what was wrong with him.
And then she did.
Chloe went still, gaze rising to view Sam through her eyelashes.
He was gazing down at her, lips parted, blush hot on his cheeks, eyes darkening.
Chloe felt her heart flutter, her body reacting in a way it never had before.
For the first time she felt that feeling of butterflies in her stomach that she'd always heard about and made fun of.
Their gazes met, and Chloe found it hard to breathe.
Suddenly a cold hand clasped around her wrist and pulled her up and back against his body.
She could feel the tension rising from Lex's body, and yet she couldn't tear her gaze from Sam, feeling the blush darkening her face.
Images of that kiss in the bathroom rose, unbidden, into her mind. It enveloped her in a warm, tingly haze.
Whenever she would think of her kisses with Lex, Chloe felt safe and comforted.
And yet the memory of Sam's hands on her did the opposite. It sent her emotions into turmoil, leaving her breathless, her skin overly sensitive, and within her was near agonized desperation.
And the worst thing was that Chloe didn't know what it was she was craving.
Sure, she knew her body wanted Sam's, she wasn't an idiot, she knew that she went into heat whenever he was close by.
But there was something other than the physical that she longer for from him.
She'd just managed to somehow forget it during these last couple of years.
Tess stormed into the room, and if what Sam had said about her and Dean was true, then it really didn't show because she still seemed tense and annoyed.
"Morning." The redhead's gaze sought Chloe's, face blank.
Chloe nodded. "Morning."
Tess finally smiled, knowing last night's argument had been put behind them. "So, what time are the Clues Brothers being shipped back to Kansas?"
"Shipped back?" Sam frowned.
Chloe's gaze lowered, feeling stupid for the sense of loss that echoed through her soul at the thought of Sam leaving.
Of course Sam had to leave.
He wasn't a part of her life anymore.
She gulped, looking down and to the side.
Usually she felt warm in Lex's embrace, but right now she felt cold and hollow.
Which was so wrong.
Lex was her constant.
She owed him so much.
Where would she be if it wasn't for Lex?
An image of Lionel, breathing heavily into her hair, his hands...
Like always her stomach went sick at the memory.
The bastard hadn't been able to...to do what he truly wanted to...but it'd still been traumatizing and terrifying.
She desperately wished to have a different memory to replace that one with.
One in which she wasn't scared to death or completely disgusted.
"We were only here for the night." Lex was informing Sam. "We don't live in Vegas. And this was only arranged so that you could see Chloe and know that she is well."
"Well?" Dean's voice snapped, letting them in on the fact that he'd been in the doorway behind them all this time. "Listen here, Luthor, that kid is not 'well'."
"Ah, yes, the other Winchester." Lex turned towards him, unimpressed and unintimidated.
"If you really loved her, you'd let us take her back." Dean stormed deeper into the room, wearing only his boxers.
"Dean, stop it." Chloe frowned.
"You hear her yourself." Lex smirked. "She doesn't want to go. She prefers to stay with me."
"The girl is traumatized and used to being used." Dean snapped.
"Stop it!" Chloe snapped, refusing to hear more of this, of them talking as if she wasn't in the room. "Lex has done nothing but help me! I owe him everything! My life! My sanity! My fucking virginity! Everything! And even if he only keeps me around because I'm useful to him, I don't care." She gulped. "You're right, Dean. All my life I've been used, people have forced me to do things, anything, but not Lex. Lex never asked me to stay by his side to work for him after he set me free. I stayed because I wanted to, and because I have a debt to pay off."
Lex's smirk had lost some of its victorious smugness, eyes narrowed and somewhat troubled as he looked at her.
"Is that what you really want, Chloe?" Sam asked softly, eyeing her intently. "To spend the rest of your life trying to repay a debt?"
"It's the only honorable thing." Chloe frowned at him, not able to understand how the others couldn't see this. "Lex has always been there for me, has never left me."
Chloe's eyes widened.
She realized he thought she was referring to his leaving to go to Stanford.
"I regret that decision every single fucking day." He told her darkly, unable to look at her.
"I didn't mean-I wasn't talking about that." She gazed down.
"Then what Chloe?" Sam glared up at her. "You can say it. I chose to leave. I didn't protect you like I swore I would. I broke my promise. I left you behind. I left you unprotected...and you were taken."
Chloe gulped. "That's not-."
"Say it!" Sam snapped, taking an angry step towards her. "Tell me how you never forgave me! Tell me that I left you behind with others just like your parents did!"
"I-." She felt scared and breathless and confused and close to tears. "I never-."
"Tell the truth!" Sam reached her, shaking her. "Blame me!"
"You couldn't have done anything even if you'd been there." She gulped, bottom lip trembling, eyes filling with tears as she reached up to cup his cheek. "Sam, this wasn't your fault."
"Then why do I feel that it is
?" He whispered, tears in his eyes. "I was supposed to protect you. I was supposed to stay by your side. I failed you and that bastard took you and..."
Dean opened his mouth.
Tess clapped her hand over his mouth and dragged the confused man out of the room.
"Sam..." Chloe, heart hurting, caressed his cheek with her thumb. "...I never once blamed you."
He looked at her, emotions strong on his face. "Come with me."
She wanted to.
She wanted to.
The blonde gulped.
She gave him a smile she knew didn't fool him, and stepped up on her tiptoes before pressing a kiss to his lips. "Goodbye, Sam."
Hurt was obvious on his face as he gulped, nodded, and walked out.
Chloe turned, watching him go, bottom lip trembling as the door slammed shut behind him.
She gulped, trying to get control of her feelings.
"Uh-I need to bathe."
Chloe raced to the bathroom before the tears could fall.
She didn't notice Lex watching her with an extremely troubled expression on his face.
