Title: The New Circle
Fandoms: Smallville/Secret Circle
Characters: Chloe Sullivan, Whitney Fordman, Greg Arkin, Cassie Blake, Diana Meade, Mikhail Balcoin, Lucas Dunleavy, Faye Chamberlain, Byron Moore...
Rating: T
Disclaimer: Don't own
Summary: Chloe Sullivan had a normal-ish life before the circle and John Blackwell turned her life upside down and gave new meaning to the unexplained weirdness that goes on in Smallville. Now life's a witch, she's a part of a circle she's not too sure she wants to be bound to, and not only do they have to worry about Witch-Hunters, but unknowingly to them another circle is on the hunt too.

It was chaos and confusion out there, people clashing everywhere with spells and weapons.

Cassie had never been in a real battle before. She'd fought before. Ever since she'd found out she was a witch, her life has been one fight after the other, but it had never been anything like this. No. Never before had she been in a situation where blood ran down the street and bodies littered the ground all around her. Never before had she had to send offensive and defensive spells left and right, listening to Chloe's voice in her mind, telling her in advance where the enemy was and what their moves were so she could counter them.

This was outright war.

She flung a curse at a witch wearing an Omega symbol, watched the soldier catch on fire, and a part of Cassie was horrified by what had become of her life. And yet another part of her was horribly cold and desensitized. That soldier wasn't the first person she'd killed and a part of her knew that he wouldn't be the last person she'd kill either. Especially not with this war looming before them.

'Cassie, behind you! Duck and roll!'

Cassie didn't question the command, ducking and rolling, the curse sent her direction only missing her by a hair. The blonde rolled onto her feet and held out her Balcoin-symbol burnt palm towards the soldier, watching him cough up blood before falling to the ground, drowning slowly on his own blood.

'Finish him off quickly. Hank's in trouble. He's not that far from you.'

Cassie twisted her wrist, the soldier's neck twisting loudly, breaking. Where?

'Run east, you'll come across him. Hurry. He's got two on him.'

Cassie nodded, taking off running in the general direction, dodging curses and weapons, not able to dodge every curse but pushing onwards until she stumbled upon the Mayor's son spasming on the ground, two witches standing over him, laughing as they cursed him. "Two against one? Really?" She smirked. "That's only fair when the one is a Balcoin." And with that, she held her palms out towards the witches as they turned their curses towards her.

The soldiers narrowed their eyes, pushing harder, trying to force their curses onto her.

On the ground, a battered, bleeding Hank whimpered.

Cassie ignored him, concentrating on the witches, blue eyes narrowed as she felt the force of the magics battling, pushing against each other, before finally she added her Balcoin magic to her Blake magic and the force of the explosion sent the two witches flying backwards.

"Thanks." Hank stumbled to his feet, holding himself painfully.

Cassie eyed him with a frown. "Can you make it back to the Caves?"

He nodded. "I think so."

'Cassie! Another one's coming around the building. He doesn't know you and Hank are there. You can catch him off guard.'

Cassie twirled around in time to see the soldier appear around the building, her spell levitating a jagged shard of glass and stabbing it through the soldier's neck, the man not having had a chance. The blonde turned her gaze to Hank, who looked queasy. "Get going."

Hank nodded quickly before beginning to limp away.

Where to now? Cassie looked around her.

'Greg needs some help,' Chloe's voice announced after a second's pause. 'He's getting surrounded.'

Cassie smirked. Take me to him.

"Someone's fighting them," the woman whispered, her voice shaky in disbelief over the radio. "Someone's actually out there fighting them!"

All around, those precious few who'd barely escaped with their lives or those who had lost friends or loved ones to the destruction of the night, leaned in closer to their radios.

"I – I can't believe – there are mortals out there!" The woman gasped, the sound of her moving something from the window enough for her to peek outside could be heard. "And witches. Mortals and witches are fighting Darkseid's mortals and witches." There was a pause, the sound of magic and explosions all around. "I – He knew. How-? I don't – I don't know how, but that mortal knew that that witch was up there and about to curse him... Someone's feeding them information." Her voice shook with shock before she gave a little laugh that sounded like a cry. "Someone's helping us!"

The witches drew closer to their radios, the injured holding their wounds as they stared at the devices intently.

"I don't know what's going on, but there's someone helping us." She whimpered; the woman had been injured while fighting earlier on. "Someone knows what the enemy is going to do before they do it and they're feeding that information to the troops here..." She gave a stuttered cry. "I can't believe it..." She was beginning to break. "We might actually have a chance."

He might have been injured, even unconscious for a while, but that hadn't kept Mikhail from going back out into the fight.

No, he was a Mxyzptlk and a Balcoin, and while the first really didn't mean much considering he had never been a part of his mother's family and the second was complicated because he'd never been able to prove himself to his father, Mikhail was not going to let an opportunity like this one pass him by. Both sides of him craved the fight, craved the action and the destruction going on at the moment, and yet most importantly, both sides of him desperately needed to prove themselves to Chloe. He felt as if, out of all of his siblings, he was the only who had made the least impression in her eyes, just like in his father's. Before, at least Cassie hadn't had the best of relationships with her, but with the blonde having gone to the Shadow Realm to help retrieve Chloe, Mikhail knew that he was in the bottom of the barrel and he did not like being there, was desperate to elevate himself in her eyes in any way possible.

It was why he was pushing himself despite his injury. Why he'd made sure he'd slipped away from Lucas in the confusion, knowing that his friend was trying to protect him and knowing that to do what he had to do, he'd have to be alone. Lucas would try and stop him should he figure out what Mikhail had planned.

It'd been hard to escape on his own. Chloe had pulled Lucas aside before they'd left the Caves and had told him to keep an eye on Mikhail, but the Balcoin was tenacious and when he wanted his way he did whatever he had to to get it.

Mikhail reveled in the fact that Chloe was genuinely worried about him, horribly so. Even if he hadn't overheard her conversation with Lucas, this psychic link between them conveyed her worry thoroughly. She wasn't pretending to have sisterly concern, she genuinely cared, and it made him try harder, hoping she could feel as well just how hard he was trying. He was going to prove to her that he was a worthy Circle mate, not just a brother. He was going to prove himself. He was.

'Don't push yourself, Mikhail.' Her voice was worried in his mind, soft and gentle. 'Please don't push yourself too hard.'

He kept a hand pressed to his injured side, which Van's mother had bandaged at the Caves. You have never seen me in a fight, have you?

'We're Balcoins, there will always be fights.'

He smirked because that was true. Have I ever told you why father chose my mother? Or why he chose to keep me?

'Why don't you come back to the safety of the Caves and tell me all about it?'

His smirk grew crooked as he walked amongst the chaos and destruction. My mother's family has a very rare talent only some have, and he was hoping that a Balcoin child would develop that gift. He was always disappointed that I didn't inherit my great grandmother's gift.

'Screw him.'

He chuckled looking up at the visible dome, which crackled with electricity.

'Mikhail! Behind you!'

He remained the way he was. You see, thing is

Mikhail finally turned, facing the witch who was raising his hand and opening his mouth to utter the curse. Mikhail merely lifted his own palm and said two words. "Be quiet."

The witch opened his mouth and tried to cast the spell but no sound came out, and since the witch was unable to cast nonverbal magic, he was left defenseless.

Mikhail smirked before casting a spell of his own, shadows encircling the witch like snakes and crushing him.

He grinned at the shock in her tone, pushing back the prickle of pain that momentarily raced through his body at having used that special ability. The young witch twirled around and held his hands out at his sides towards different soldiers. "Trip and break."

The soldiers fell simultaneously, one breaking a leg and the other an arm.

Mikhail couldn't hide his wince as the pain magnified but he pressed on. He needed to prove himself. By the gods, this night couldn't end without him finally proving himself!

Chloe slid to her knees, her head killing her, feeling torn between a million different places in Smallville at once. She didn't know if she could handle it, not for much longer (especially without letting on to the others that she was in so much pain!), but she pressed on, speaking inside the heads of those in battle, giving them the heads up, telling them things only she could see with her bird's eye view. At first, the Muggles had been harder to work with, but they'd opened up to her eventually, working along with her, and quite a bit of them were starting to talk back to her out loud, especially the football team and Van. They were getting people to safety, ushering them towards the caves, and a steady group of confused yet scared refugees were making their way, entering safety.

A witch hit Van with a curse that drove him to the ground, the boy coughing up blood as he screamed in pain.

On her hands and knees on the ground, Chloe tightened her clenched fists and screamed as she threw her head back and finally opened her eyes, the greens clouding over.

Byron stared down at Trent's lifeless body, the youngest Balcoin gulping back the urge to cry. This was his fault. If he hadn't been so distracted, Trent wouldn't have had to protect him, wouldn't have died getting in between him and that curse. This death was on him.

'No.' Chloe's voice was pained yet soothing in his ear. 'This is not your fault.'

Byron couldn't look up from Trent's body, feeling numb as the world fought each other around him. He died because of me.

'He died because of them,' Chloe countered. 'You need to get your head in the game, Byron. You can't be this distracted. You're going to put yourself in more danger and other people as well who care about you.'

He wiped at his eyes with the back of his palms. Did you see who did this to him?

There was a pause, and then, 'I see everything.'

He looked up at the electrified dome crackling above. Take me to him.

There was another pause, and then a sigh, pained. 'Get up. You'll have to run. He's got a head start on you. We're about to win this and he knows it. He's trying to make for the barrier, to find a way out. He doesn't realize there isn't a way out.'

Byron didn't answer, he was already running.

Her voice was a gasp of confusion and of wonder. "It's… it's raining… it's raining…"

The audience of witches listening intently to the radio broadcast from the midst of the massacre couldn't understand why that was so important, why she-

"It's raining lightning," the woman finally finished as she stuttered out a half laugh, half cry. "There's an electric dome over Smallville and it's raining lightning down on Darkseid's soldiers. It's not touching anyone else. Just Darkseid's people. Just those with the Omega symbol."

Hiding in caves, or in destroyed buildings, or listening with earphones on amongst mortals, or wherever the witches felt the safest, they listened in shock.

"I've never seen power like this before," the woman whispered in awe. "It's so… It's so beautiful." And then she broke down crying, those listening to the broadcast able to hear her whispering to herself, the witch unable to believe that she was alive, that it was over. "It's over." She kept repeating that over and over again. "We're alive. I can't believe I'm alive."

There was noise, the sound of something shuffling and falling, the girl gasping, and then a male voice. "Miss, are you okay?"

"You've been hurt." He sighed. "Come, Chloe's taken down the barrier now that the danger's been eliminated. We're getting a couple of buses together and getting everyone who has been wounded to the hospital in Metropolis. You need to be on one of those buses."

"Chloe? Chloe Balcoin?" the girl whispered, echoing the shock that the magical community on a whole felt. "She's back? I thought she was with Darkseid? Are you saying she's here now? She's the one who created the dome? Who-? That power was hers?"

There was a pause. "You need to be on the bus. Come, I'll help you." There was another pause. "Are you on the phone?"

"Do you hear that?" the girl whispered into her phone. "Chloe Balcoin is back, Smallville has survived the attack, and the House of Balcoin still stands." She laughed shakily. "I repeat, the House of Balcoin still stands." Her voice broke. "There's hope."

-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v -v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v -v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v -v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v -v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v -v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v -v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v

Chloe screamed as she lay on the floor of what she was going to call Cerebro, the girl clutching one hand to her head and the other to her solar plexus. Her whole body seemed to be tearing apart from the inside, something wanting to claw out horribly, to bite its way out. She'd overused her magic, had expected too much out of it, and now her body was paying the price. Her body arched off of the floor as she coughed up blood, the girl screaming at the images that still wouldn't leave her head, at the voices that still echoed in her ears. She couldn't disconnect from the psychic energy in this room, no matter how desperately she wanted to, and it was slowly driving her insane.

She didn't feel herself being dragged out of the cavern, didn't realize she wasn't in Cerebro until she was far away from it… Far enough that its psychic energy was weak enough to lose its hold on her. Chloe hadn't even realized that she was in someone's arms, clutching him tightly and screaming into his chest, until long after the madness had passed her and she found herself sitting on the ground in confusion.

It was only when he finally pulled away with a grunt that Chloe saw her rescuer, her eyes filling with tears as she stared into his ashen face.

"Are you okay?" he whispered through his own pain, cupping her face.

"I was so scared you were going to die!" Chloe blurted as she stared up into Pete's battered face before bursting out into tears and hiding her face in his shirt once more.

'You should have stopped her!' Seyg snarled in his Dragon form, impressive despite his age. In this form, they didn't communicate with words, the only sounds they mouths made were snarls and other sounds of menace. Instead, their minds were what spoke to each other. 'It is your fault! It is all your fault! You are not worthy!'

The rest of the Council stood in session, all in scaled forms, standing around him in court. Their eyes were all cold, judging, condemning. Their nostrils flared and smoke rose.

He stood in the middle of the circle, proud even in the face of their condemnation.

'Defend yourself, boy,' Councilman Jor, one of the only friendly eyes in the Council, recommended. 'The day's events have scraped a few scales here. It would be best if you explained yourself and saved yourself further reproach.' His blazing orange gaze went to Seyg. 'Considering how inferior he continuously referred to her, it would seem father was actually far more fond of the idea of that girl than he let on.'

Seyg narrowed his eyes on his son. 'Other than her father, the Rao bloodline is dead. It is one of the purest – there is none other that matches yours in purity or strength.' A muscle jumped in his cheek. 'Even if the purity might be tainted with her humanity, the strength has obviously been magnified somehow.' A calculating look appeared in those reptilian eyes. 'She teleported within Apokalips and outside without permission, without a ritual, or without even a key. That – that is unheard of.' His gaze rose to the youngest Dragon amongst them. 'And you did not even try to stop her.'

He took in a deep breath. 'As you've pointed out, Councilman Seyg, she has the ability to move between the dimensions on her own. There was very little I could do to stop her.'

'You have a weakness for the Rao family.' There was dark accusation from Councilman Zor, whose reptilians were a different shade black than the rest of his eyes. 'First her father and now her. You have a tendency to allow them to do whatever they feel like without any repercussion.'

He turned his blue reptilian eyes on Councilman Zor. 'My scales had yet to change color when he left. I was neither old enough, powerful enough, or in a position to make Rao do anything.' He raised his head.'And if I truly were as bending to his will as you suggest, Councilman Zor, I would not be here right now. I would have left with him when he asked me to.'

'He speaks the truth,' Councilman Jor announced. 'Are we not venting our frustrations on the lad?'

'He's not a lad.' Raya, one of the few female Council, stepped forwards, her eyes narrowed. 'Let's also not forget that this is not his first failure.'

He looked away, the words harsher than any blow could have ever been.

'Raya, please.' Lara, Jor's wife and the only other female Council, sighed. 'You both lost someone when Ursa and Lor died. You cannot blame him for their deaths. It is our way. Many of our females do not make it.'

Raya stared at him before looking away in disgust.

He wouldn't look at her, instead staring ahead of him, refusing to show any emotion, any weakness. Not in front of the Council.

'You will fix this mess you have created. Your bloodline will not die with you.' Councilman Seyg glared at him fiercely, nostrils flaring, smoke rising as his gaze turned to Jor. 'Gatekeeper, I give you permission to unlock the doors between our world and that of the mortals.' Those infuriated eyes turned to the youngest Dragon in their midst. 'Major Zod is going to go through it to the mortal world and is going to find his wife.'

Well, yes, in their Dragon form at least :)

Chloe's reaction.... *innocent smile*

There needed to be a ChloexPete reunion! They hadn't seen each other in a while!!!

Zod! I knew it. Wife? This could get messy. Are you sure this isn't a harem fic? Because she's got lots of options.

I'm wondering how the witchy world will react to the Balcoin house still standing. Also wondering how many survivors there are fom the other houses besides Adam and Lucas.
19th-Sep-2013 01:49 am (UTC)
Yush, it could definitely get messy!!!!!

Very good points to wonder!!!!!!
18th-Sep-2013 02:33 pm (UTC) - 2 traitors amongst them!!!
WE or "ME" know that Zanatana is a back-stabbing **** but SHE'S not the ONLY one! While most to all your other readers might not CARE nor NOTICE it, but I DO! I don't care about the "romance" in this story since, LIKE I said before, there isn't any and if there was, you'd written it already..It's laughable really..LOL..

Anyways, WHAT I do care and WILL always notices is TRAITORS and BACK-STABBING W****B****! Zanatan is one and the OTHER is either PETE or ANAL WHORE! I don't even WANT to know whom since EITHER is very capable and SELFISH and VAIN and just down-right pathetic/egotistical when it comes down to THEIR "PLACE" in the MC etc..What I want or care about is CHLOE addressing and BRING it to ATTN with everyone else..I will never and could NEVER accept the 'forgive/forget' attitude when it comes to disgusting deeds done! It must be brought up, otherwise, it makes what you've ALREADY written and done, POINTLESS and lets' be honest, this story is anything but POINTLESS..The 'ROMANCE' is a JOKE, of course.

That one female Dragon*nraya* is a bitch!! I wonder whom Ursa and Lor are..They're females, of course..A dauther/wife/sister kinda thing..I thought one of them might be MALE, since that raya bitch is SO BITTER about the incident? Hmmm?

Whatever, if Zod was with raya somehow in that past, thou I doubt it since you IMPLIED he's the YOUNGEST Dragon to exist??

You're amazing with this story..Truly amazing..Too bad it ONLY lacks ONE THING, ONE FLAW, the romance dept(you tease and honestly, if I didn't KNOW that there's NO ROMANCE, for Chloe anyways, this FACT to this story would just be BAD WRITING ON YOUR part and IT IS) but whatever...Truly amazing story..

Your Avatar/Pic is missing ONE thing..A Dragon! I mean, you have Scales; why not Claw(A Dragon)..This has to be the BEST of your Avatar/Pic so far..Bryon looks innocent and I guess, that what you're going for, Mikhail looks damn good in that pic..Don't know who they are thou..From what series/tv/movie etc. Greg's pic looks OLD..HE looks TOO OLD compared to the rest of them. Those eyes behide Chloe..I have NO idea who they belong too..I might have to reread everything/some of the latest chapters to figure it out; or I might have missed that fact or you just haven't SHOWN anyone with those eyes yet..? I'll probably reread.

Zatanna really isn't backstabbing, technically. She did what she did and she had her reasons. She didn't backstab Chloe because Chloe wasn't anything to her when she did it to her. Zatanna got something out of it, but she lost something important because of it as well.

There *is* a bit of ego in the Lana/Pete, though it's more on Lana's part than Pete's. He lets himself be led by her a lot, and she feels he deserves more than he gets.

Lor is actually a male. I have left that purposely vague and will later explain more :)

Sorry, I didn't explain that better. Zod was the youngest Dragon in attendance at the Council meeting. Not to exist.

Greg's pic is actually from when he's their age actually. He just has an older look :)

It's back-stabbing no-matter if ONE knows the person that ONE is DOING it too..It's NO EXCUSE! It never is!

Like I said, I don't dislike or HATE Pete in general or canon but I do HATE pathetic LOSERS that COULD'VE/MIGHT'VE betrayed your OWN blood, esp one that YOU'VE know sine a kid..It's pathetic of Pete..Such a lame-ass LOSER for doing and being so WEAK towards A WHORE that doesn't deserve it at all..I mean, for gods sake, GIVE pete someone that DESERVES his LOVE..AT least have someone that's BRING OUT THE GOOD IN HIM, not what the ANAL WHORE is doing but I honestly don't care enough for Pete. Clark, Pete and ESP THE ANAL WHORE betrayed Chloe once already. In RL, to let a GIRL LEAD you around by your 'D***' is just so SAD and Pete is just NO LONGER a MAN! That's what happens..I really hope PETE can REDEEM himself a bit like Clark.

ANAL WHORE line should die with HER AND HER AUNT!! You've obviously messed up in the whole, whom it was that LOCKED and TRAPPED Rao..First you say, ANAL whore's line was part of it, then you said, only the six, which is it?

If it was ANAL WHORE then why diddn't Rao just off the bitch?

Anyways, YOU DID MISLEAD about the whole URSA and Lor sine a WOMEN will never be this BITTER if it didn't involve a MAN..Her husband probably.

Because the Six didn't act alone, they had other families helping them. And Rao has his reasons for why he does whatever he does. I didn't mess up anything. Don't assume things, then again, if you do you'll end up surprised.

WIFE!!!!! She's his wife!!!
I knew they were connected somehow and I was thinking in terms of being mates but how did it became husband and wife? Tsk, these dragons...

Zod! I wasn't sure who he was until you gave me that hint that the characters would all be from the 2 fandoms only. So happy! He is hot! :)

Yeah, Major Zod go get your wife! But get ready for some competition because we all know you are not the only one who wants to do the horizontal mambo with our dear Chloe!

Chloe, I just have one thing to say... You go girl! :)

Yush, and the poor girl has *no* clue! It will be explained a bit more once he finally appears in Smallville and Chloe finds out she hasn't seen the last of "Norbert".
