Fandoms: Smallville/Secret Circle
Characters: Chloe Sullivan, Whitney Fordman, Greg Arkin, Cassie Blake, Diana Meade, Mikhail Balcoin, Lucas Dunleavy, Faye Chamberlain, Byron Moore...
Rating: T
Disclaimer: Don't own
Summary: Chloe Sullivan had a normal-ish life before the circle and John Blackwell turned her life upside down and gave new meaning to the unexplained weirdness that goes on in Smallville. Now life's a witch, she's a part of a circle she's not too sure she wants to be bound to, and not only do they have to worry about Witch-Hunters, but unknowingly to them another circle is on the hunt too.

Chloe felt extremely awkward in the truck with Whitney driving, and Zod, Davis and Jason in the backseat. Moira was in the other car with Lucas and Cassie, and Chloe was relieved because she didn't know how much of this she could take. And she wasn't the only one who was awkward. Everyone in the truck was silent, Whitney having turned on the radio (KROC playing, maybe ironically, Oh Oh Oh It's Magic) while he drove, the Quarterback holding on so tightly to the steering wheel that his knuckles were nearly see through.

Reaching out, Chloe rested her hand on Whitney's thigh, giving it a little reassuring rub, a bit worried about him.

He jumped slightly at the touch, blues lowering to her hand before sliding outwards towards her, eyebrows rising before his lips twitched and he chuckled, nodding to her that he was okay, that she shouldn't worry. One of his hands lowered to rest over the hand that she had on his thigh, Whitney squeezing it reassuringly, dimpling in a smile before he let go of her hand and returned his hand to the steering-wheel and attention to the road.

Her green orbs went to the rearview mirror, fixing on Zod, who was leaning against the door, angled in a way so that he could discreetly eye the two males he was seated next to. There was an intrigued yet confused look in his dark orbs. Those orbs narrowed as he tilted his head slightly, obviously deep in thought as he looked back and forth between Jason and Davis, and then suddenly his gaze shifted and his dark orbs met Chloe's in the rearview mirror, his eyebrow raising in what was probably supposed to be a meaningful gesture, though she had no idea what it meant. His head, very discreetly, nodded in the direction of Davis and Jason. Chloe tried conveying with her eyes that she had no idea what the hell he was trying to tell her. She must have conveyed it because Zod looked annoyed at her and turned to look out of the window.

Hearing Jason sigh softly behind her, Chloe forgot all about how weird Zod was acting this time, heart going out to Jason and how he must be suffering. She understood the pain of losing a father, especially when one didn't have the time to properly mourn his passing. The blonde felt an ache in her heart, a need to comfort, and slipped her right hand down the side of the seat to clutch at his pants. It wasn't much, it wasn't anything really, and it wasn't as if they'd been relatively close the last couple of months he'd been in Smallville before his departure, but the girl still felt this overwhelming need to show support and this was the only way she really knew how. She gave his pant leg a little squeeze and let go, fingers slipping away when his caught hers, their fingertips curling into each other's.

A half-smile curled the corner of her lips as she leaned hard against the seat, staring in front of her as they continued silent the rest of the drive, listening to Witchy Woman and Marilyn Manson's version of I Put A Spell On You playing on the radio.

"We need to talk to her, this can't wait any longer." Diana had stayed behind with Greg in town while the others went home so she could pull him aside and talk to him about this where no one would hear them. "She needs to know what we saw in that golden mirror in her Psyche."

"In time," Greg hedged, a large scratch across his cheek from the short-lived fight with the Golems.

Diana moved closer. "You're stalling."

He looked around before moving closer. "So what if I am?"

Diana pouted. "Greg, she needs to know."

"It's not like it's important to the fight, Diana," Greg grumbled. "If it was, I would have told her in a heartbeat, you know that."

She nodded. "But still…"

He groaned, running his scarred hand through his hair. "Dee..."

"Gregorius." Diana anchored her hands on her hips.

Greg eyed her, his lips twitching in visible amusement.

She raised an eyebrow. "What?"

"Nothing." Greg lowered his head and chuckled. "You just seemed a lot like my mother right then."

Diana paused, a small smile playing on her lips as she ducked her head, giving it a little shake. "Don't go changing the subject."

"Wouldn't dream of it." His voice was tinted with laughter as his brown eyes rose to meet hers before Greg cleared his throat and looked away to the side, smile melting from his face as he eyed something. "So, where's your boyfriend and his dad staying?"

Diana raised an eyebrow, following his gaze to Adam C and Mr Conant and back to Greg. "He's not my boyfriend. We broke up over Cassie. The Blakes and the Conants are supposedly destined in the stars or something like that."

Greg shrugged his shoulders, shoving his hands into his jacket's pockets. "Doesn't stop him from looking at you over here."

"We're friends and we haven't gotten much time to talk," Diana replied. "And to answer your question, they're going to rent the McPherson's place. Chance Harbor got pretty wrecked but Adam's dad owned a restaurant and managed to save enough that they can live pretty well until he can sell it or whatever they're going to do with it."

Greg nodded wordlessly.

Diana eyed the boy. "Even if it has nothing to do with the war, we still need to tell her what we saw."

"You tell her."

"You're being childish." She rolled her eyes. "We will tell her, the both of us, continuing to work together like we're supposed to now that we're the two Psychic representatives of her two forming Circles."

"So what?" Greg eyed her, tilting his head to the side with a crooked smile. "You want us to work together like liaison agents between the Darkseid and Balcoin Circles?"

"Precisely." She nodded.

Greg eyed her up and down thoughtfully, still grinning crookedly, before nodding. "Special Agents Meade and Arkin, I kinda like the sound of that."

Diana's smile slipped a little as she took in a deep breath. "After what just went down between Chloe and gran – Kate – I think I'm going to be going by Balcoin from now on."

"Really?" Greg eyed her curiously. "That's a big decision."

"I know. I've been thinking about it a lot actually," she admitted. "What happened today just cemented my decision. I'm going to talk to Chloe about it later."

"Good for you." Greg nodded. "Now let's get back to the house before all the excitement happens without us."

Diana sent one last look in Adam Conant's direction before she returned her gaze to Greg and nodded, smiling. "Yes, lets."

"How has she been?" Moira asked softly from the back seat.

Cassie cleared her throat, looking towards Lucas, but the guy was on the phone with Faye and wasn't paying attention to them, so she was forced to answer, turning to look back at the woman who'd killed Gabe Sullivan. "She's strong."

"Who was that with her?" Moira wanted to know. "That man? I've never seen him before."

Cassie looked away, leaning hard against the seat. "Chloe will explain things at the house."

Moira took in a deep breath. "I take it things between you two have gotten better since I last saw you."

Cassie had to give a dark laugh at that. "You definitely could say that."

"But you're still not a part of her Circle yet." That was like stab.

Cassie's lips twisted as her blues stared out of the window. "Who says I want to be?"

Lucas snapped his phone closed. "Faye and Byron are on their way back."

"Byron?" Moira asked curiously.

"The last brother," Lucas replied tersely.

Moira leaned forwards. "She's found her last brother?"

"There's a lot you don't know." Lucas sent her a look over his shoulder. "Happens when you keep abandoning your kid."

Moira flinched and leaned backwards, looking out the window once more.

Cassie pressed her forehead against the cool glass, a hot darkness curling in her stomach.

"It'll be fine." Bryon's hand on her shoulder was reassuring, or at least it was trying to be reassuring. "I know that Chloe won't let Cassie do anything to your mom."

"I know that." Faye took in a deep breath as she tapped her heel against the elevator floor, waiting as ridiculously cheery music played. "I just can't believe she came to Smallville, you know? I just – I've gotten so used to the fact that she's not here and that I'm a free agent. And now she's here and – and – I didn't even know Chance Harbor was attacked, Byron!"

His hand moved to rub her back. "She's fine."

"She had Cassie's mom killed. She's kinda evil." Faye finally turned her head to stare at Byron, face betraying her conflicting emotions.

He sighed, staring at her. "That doesn't make her any less your mother, or doesn't mean that she doesn't love you or that you love her any less either."

She groaned, looking away, covering her face with her hands. "This is just getting so complicated!"

Byron gave a little chuckle. "We're in the middle of a war, Faye. How is it just getting complicated for you now?"

Faye pouted, parting her fingers enough to gaze at him through them. "Would you think less of me if I admitted to actually having fun?"

Byron threw his head back and laughed, clutching at his stomach. "I think your mother's not the only one who's kinda evil!"

Faye's pout grew as she slid the hands from her face and planted them on her hips. "I can't help it, okay!? Sure, the whole thing is utterly terrifying, but you have to admit that underneath the horror, there's an element of excitement there."

Byron wiped at his eyes, body still shaking from laughter.

Faye rolled her eyes. "At least I'm not the only one terrified at the thought of family being near."

Byron coughed into his hand, eyeing her curiously.

"Lucas," she clarified. "He didn't come out and say it, but every Luthor managed to somehow survive the massacre – how freaking lucky is that, by the way? – and are now in Smallville. He's clearly about to have a nervous breakdown, being in such close quarters with them."

Byron's smile slipped as they neared his floor. "I know Julian knows, but I wonder if the others do… and how they will react when they find out."

Faye shrugged. "It's a good thing we've got all we need from your uncle and don't have to stay away any longer." She made a face. "I was getting antsy, being away for so long."

"Two days," Byron corrected.

"I know, it was horrible." Faye shivered. "I never would have thought I'd ever see the day where I'd be relieved to be heading back to Smallville."

Byron grinned at her, shaking his head as they reached the ground floor and the doors to the elevator opened.

A part of Chloe had hoped that Lucas was exaggerating when he'd said that things were broken in the house from the Luthors' 'quibbling', but no, unfortunately he had not been exaggerating. There were broken chairs and vases and as Chloe stared at the extent of the damage done to the house she merely rented, she knew that her magic was still in hibernation, healing, but the white hot fury beneath her skin was bringing something bubbling up. She moved towards the sounds of fighting, moving through the house to the backyard, where the "quibbling" had been moved, but it was far from quibbling.

Adam, AC, Victor, Lois and Dinah were doing their best, trying to get in the middle of the Luthor rumble, trying to get the family to calm down and stop fighting, spells and curses flying left, right and center. The four weren't successful at all, and were getting caught in the crossfire over and over again, the Luthors too pissed, too intent on hurting each other.

"They're like ravenous wolves fighting over a piece of meat."

Chloe turned her head to see Mikhail leaning against the wall, hands over his chest. She raised her eyebrow. "Why am I not surprised that you're not trying to help them stop this?"

"Because you know that I don't care if the Luthors tear each other apart?" Mikhail chanced a guess, gaze going past her to Lucas behind her. "Took you long enough."

"Things happened," Lucas grumbled.

It was only then that Mikhail seemed to notice Jason, Davis and Moira, the boy pushing away from the wall, eyes widening.

A stray curse zinged past them and flew at Chloe, hitting her hard, knocking the oxygen out of her lungs and making her feel like millions of pins and needles were pumping through her veins. The shock of the agony activated something within her and Chloe closed her eyes tightly and clenched her fists, biting down on her bottom lip to try and smother the scream of pain that threatened to come out. That something that had happened inside of the cave, it snarled again, the girl losing control of her anger, pissed off at the Luthors and wanting them all to pay for not respecting the sanctity of her house – rented or not – for daring to touch her. Something inside of her, something animalistic, growled, magic pouring out of her despite how tired she was and the fact that she was still healing and really shouldn't be doing any sort of magic at the moment. She wasn't in control though, her instinct triggered, something fierce and violent and pissed and-and-

She sensed magic coming at her and reacted, holding out her Balcoin-scarred palm towards the magic, eyes still closed, hearing nothing but the blood thudding loudly in her ears. She could feel magic dwindling in her hold though, could feel it draining into her, feel someone gasping, struggling as their body twitched in the air.

A part of her was confused because her magic was supposed to be in hibernation, she knew she'd exhausted it, but then Rao's words about her still being unable to tap into her full potential came back to her and she wondered if this was a taste of what that might be like. Maybe, like in the mental caves, her fury was giving her a little preview.

Two other magics came at her from behind and this time, Chloe didn't even turn towards them, the girl didn't even move, merely let the intoxicating magic flow outwards, that beating in her ear like war drums, keeping her in a trance, her body swaying slightly.
