Summary: Chloe Sullivan had a normal-ish life before the circle and John Blackwell turned her life upside down and gave new meaning to the unexplained weirdness that goes on in Smallville. Now life's a witch, she's a part of a circle she's not too sure she wants to be bound to, and not only do they have to worry about Witch-Hunters, but unknowingly to them another circle is on the hunt too.

"So you're saying that, in all of the time you were with John, you never heard him mention anything about any Stones of Power," Cassie pushed, staring at the both of them. "You're sure. Not even a vague reference?"

"No." Mikhail hugged himself tightly, visibly disturbed. "You're saying that if she doesn't have these Stones to complete this ritual, that even with these bracelets feeding her their life force, she'll eventually die?"

Cassie licked her lips as she nodded. "That's what Whitney said the Dragon who came back with them told him. The Willowbrook is only slowing down her death. It won't stop it."

"Damn it!" Lucas snapped. "Even if John knew about the Stones of Power, he wouldn't have told us! He always had his damned secrets!"

"Trent was always better at finding out his secrets than we were." Mikhail frowned.

"Maybe Grant can figure something out." Lucas turned to Mikhail, agitated. "He's with the boys now in the reassembled warehouse. I'll have them scour the whole thing top to bottom. It wouldn't be the first time he's hidden things in that place that we found without knowing they were there."

"You do that." Mikhail nodded before turning to Cassie. "You and I will follow another lead."

Cassie blinked. "What other lead?"

"Our father might not have told Lucas or me anything about these Stones, but there is someone he might have told, someone who is here in Smallville."

Cassie's eyes widened. "Really? Who?"

Lucas' eyes widened. "Patty."

"Exactly." Mikhail nodded, determined. "She seems to be working her own angle right now and I don't know if we can trust that, but if she has information that we need to save Chloe then we have to go to her." He motioned to Cassie with his head as he stormed towards the door, grabbing his things. "Come on, let's go."

Cassie nodded, hurrying after him. "I'm right behind you!"

They'd been walking in silence through the back garden for a couple of minutes when they spoke at the same time.

"I'm sorry-"

"I must apologize-"

Both Lex and Chloe exchanged looks.

Lex took in a deep breath, hands clasped behind his back. "You have no need to apologize. It was our fault. My father and I got into a heated argument which my siblings got into the middle of and which got out of control. Usually we are much more in control of ourselves. Luthors are usually the Kings and Queens of disdain, not of passion, but tempers exploded and too many ill feelings flew to the surface. Your house, friends, and yourself, were caught in the crossfire and I must offer my sincerest apologies on behalf of myself and my house and hope that this lack of foresight on our behalf has not cost us our alliance."

Chloe sent Lex a sideways glance, lips twitching in dark amusement. "I apparently had you coughing bloody pins and needles. I think we can call it even."

The corner of Lex's lips curled as well. "Then even we will call it."

Chloe smiled, shaking her head. "How's the throat?"

He grinned. "I've been sucking on lozenges."

"I've been there." She tsked, thinking about the abuse at the hands of Nell Potter. "Sorry."

The bald witch shook his head. "I am just relieved we have cemented our alliance once more. You can be quite terrifying and I am very hard to terrify."

Chloe barked out her laughter. "I don't know about terrifying."

Lex eyed her before taking in a deep breath. "I've been kept out of the loop, but I'm an observant man, I see that you're preparing to leave." He tilted his head. "What's the plan? I thought you were putting down roots here in Chloeville."

"Look at you, the comedian," she rolled her eyes at that last little bit before clearing her throat. "I am putting down roots in Smallville, but I have to do something first." Chloe eyed him thoughtfully. "I need you to do something for me while I'm gone."

"And what's that?" He raised an eyebrow.

"I need you to stop being your father's lapdog and find out what he's hiding." She stepped closer to Lex, knowing she was pushing it but not caring, tilting her head back slightly as she stared up into his face. "We're heading to war and he's holding all the cards and he knows it. We need to know everything he knows. Everything, Lex. We can't afford to let him have his secrets anymore."

"The same goes for your mother," Lex replied candidly.

"I know." Chloe nodded. "It's why I sent Jason and Davis to go there, because if there was a chance that she was still alive, we needed her and everything she knows."

Lex eyed her in silence. "Your mother and my father, our two biggest obstacles."

"Your dad, my mother and father," Chloe corrected grudgingly, thinking of Rao.

Lex narrowed his eyes. "You think of him as your father now? What about Gabe? I thought he was your father?"

Chloe flinched and looked away. "Of course he is."

"What happened to you while you were with Darkseid, Chloe?" Lex wanted to know as he reached out and cupped her face, turning her to face him once more, his eyes narrowed on her. "You're different."

She stared up at him. "How so?"

"I don't know." And it was obvious that it bothered him to admit it. "You just are." Lex stared down at her. "What did they do to you while you were with them?"

Chloe angled her head away from him. "Well, to start, they took away a bunch of my memories."

Lex frowned darkly. "What?"

"My father? Gabe? Most of him is gone, they concentrated on him. Sure, they made sure I have very little memories with Lois, Lucy, Uncle Sam and Aunt Ellen, even Moira, but they concentrated on dad. I only have one memory of him." She took in a deep breath. "They also worked hard on erasing the rest of my family to the extent that I spent a lot of time trying to remind myself if Lucas was my brother or Mikhail, and if Cassie was a blonde or a redhead."

Lex's eyes narrowed as he watched her.

Chloe scratched between her eyebrows, gaze tilted away, uncomfortable with remembering the time in Darkseid's grasp. "He had me deny my Balcoin side so I was killing everything and everyone magic, because I'm the Firstborn and I can't just renounce my magic like that. Was your magic weaker during that time? Failing you?"

Lex's eyes were even more narrowed. "That was because of you?"

"That was because I was killing the Six's magic without even realizing it." Chloe's laugh was dark. "I can kill the Six's magic, Lex, by just not wanting to be a part of it anymore. Do you get that? I can choose to end the Six's magic, to make every single witch in the entire world mortal if I wanted to."

Lex stared down at her, obviously trying to digest what she was saying. "That sort of power…"

Chloe opened her mouth when pain seared through her and she swayed, the blonde's world spinning. She would have fallen if Lex hadn't caught her. She brought her hand to her mouth and coughed, missing the way the stone on the bracelet she had yet to realize she was wearing, glowed.

"Are you okay?" Lex asked, holding onto her. "You seem… weak."

"I'm fine." Chloe pulled her hand from her mouth, eyes widening when they came away bloodied, those greens horrified. "I think."

"You are not fine," Lex snapped, grabbing her hand by her wrist and staring at the blood, pulling a handkerchief from his pocket and using it to wipe at it. "What is happening to you? You look pale as death!"

She flinched at that, clenching the cloth in her fist. "I need you to do me a favor right now."

Lex nodded, sensing the urgency.

"Go to your father and find out if he knows anything about something called the Stones of Power." Chloe licked her lips. "Tell him if he does know, not to beat around the bush because if he does, he'll kill me and I have a feeling he wants me alive."

Lex narrowed his eyes. "You're dying?"

"Lex, go talk to your father, now," Chloe urged.

Lex took in a deep breath before nodding. "I'll speak to him immediately." With that, he turned and left.

Patty was glad that Oliver wasn't there (though she wasn't exactly sure where he was) because she wasn't ready for their alliance to be known and it would have been known with Cassie and Mikhail bursting into the room she was staying in the way they had, spilling the situation and what they needed from her – what they hoped she had for them. A part of Patricia was distracted by John's killer being so close to her. That part wanted nothing but revenge, but a greater part of Patricia knew that it would be foolish of her to try and get revenge on Cassie for John's death so she stayed her hand and listened intently to what they had to tell her. The best way to honor John was to help Chloe in any way that she could, and it seemed that someone had put that girl in even more danger now by putting her in some sort of Orb and starting some sort of Dragon ritual that could only be completed with something they called the Stones of Power.

"Are they actually stones or is it something called the Stones of Power?" Patricia wanted to know.

Mikhail deflated, his accent going deeper in his disappointment. "So you do not know either."

Cassie closed her eyes. "He was so sure John would have told you."

That warmed Patty's heart, a small smile on her lips before she cleared her throat. "I'm just saying, I might have heard John mention something once."

Mikhail and Cassie both looked up at that, eyes wide. "What?"

"Are they stones or not?" Patricia echoed her previous question.

The siblings shared a look before Cassie shrugged. "We don't know. We think they're real stones though."

Patricia frowned as she nibbled on her bottom lip. "Chloe needs to ask John this question."

Mikhail snorted. "So what, you think we should have a séance or something? Hold hands and conjure the old man's ghost around a flimsy table?"

But it was Cassie who got it, her eyes widening. "The Echo."

Patty nodded. "Precisely."

Zod groaned as he awoke, sitting up and finding himself on a cot in the room that had made itself one with Chloe's Bleeding Caves.

Immediately, he stood rapidly, the world spinning and forcing him to lay back down with a groan.

"You'll be weak for the next couple of days. The two bracelets combined took a lot out of you and the fact that you are still wearing one which is sucking out life and magic constantly, even if a small amount, is not helping either." Jor-El didn't even look up from the scrolls he was hunched over. "But you will be fine."

Zod looked at the single bracelet he wore before his gaze swung to the floating Ceremonial Altar, finding it empty.

"She's fine, alive." Jor traced a passage with his finger. "Was still asleep when the Sanguine took her to her home."

Finally, the Major found the strength to sit up. "Three would not have been enough to keep her alive, four was pushing it. Six would have been ideal."

"I agree. Six would have been ideal; less strain on the donors."

Zod's eyes narrowed on the older Dragon and a growl escaped his lips.

Jor sighed as he finally turned to face Zod. "You know the answer to the question you won't ask, Major."

Zod pressed his palms against the edge of the cot as he stared ahead. "Who is he?"

"I do not know his name, only that the others knew who he was," the surviving Councilman admitted, a moment's hesitation visible before he cleared his throat. "His mark of intent appeared on her. I believe his putting on the bracelet has triggered his Dragon magic."

Zod's grip on the edge of the cot tightened, his nails turning to claws. "I see."

"He is also of the House of Ur."

Zod looked up at that, his eyes narrowed. "I do not recognize the name."

"You wouldn't," the Councilman agreed. "It, along with twelve other names, were struck from our records, as well as their deeds, in fear that if the memory of their acts remained, their work might be completed."

"What are you talking about?" Zod frowned, not in the best of moods and Jor's vagueness not helping.

"Dax-Ur was one of our purest, strongest, smartest – He was such a tremendous loss to our society as a whole." Jor stood and began to pace. "When the Willowbrook corrupted him, he was a formidable foe, unlike any we'd face as a species, or so I've read." He took in a deep breath. "He was the one who formed and led Black Zero."

Zod's eyes narrowed, recognizing that name. "You said that word in Apokalips."

"It was a rebel group which started a civil war with the then Ruling Council, a group which was lead by Dax-Ur and who had all been corrupted by the prolonged use of the Willowbrook. They were stopped and all thirteen, as well as those in allegiance with them, were destroyed." Jor's gaze was narrowed on the bracelet on Zod's wrist, unhappy. "You must find those Stones and take the Willowbrook off of her, Zod, before the roots take hold in her too deeply. I am beginning to fear that it was no coincidence that she… that he wears it."

"You think that Rao somehow orchestrated this so that she'd be weak and have to put on the Willowbrook?" Zod shook his head. "How? Even he couldn't do this. You said that these thirteen were destroyed. That would mean that their magics were as well." Zod took in a deep breath as he stood slowly. "But the Ruling Council must have kept this Dax-Ur's essence, his magic, and had it stored where they kept Steppenwolf's. Rao must have taken it when he took the latter."

"Steppenwolf?" Jor frowned. "The Salamander?"

"His essence was grafted onto a mortal of this realm," Zod informed.

Jor frowned as he leaned hard against the wall. "This goes further than I suspected."

"While I believe that Rao has his hands in the Ur bloodline returning, I do not believe he is so omniscient that he knew that Chloe and I would not be in Apokalips when he attacked but that we would arrive in time to save you and would be able to take this chamber back here, or at least that we'd take these bracelets so that they could corrupt the spawn of Ur. No." Zod took in a deep breath, highly displeased. "I believe that this is, despite how much it plays in his favor, a coincidence."

"Coincidence or not, we have returned to us a bloodline thought dead, as old as ours." Jor took in a deep breath. "If we can keep the Willowbrook from tainting you all, this could end up favoring us."

Zod didn't answer, merely gave a noncommittal nod. He knew that the Councilman would not approve of his plan, the older Dragon concerned with the rebuilding of their species, and while Zod was also committed to that as well, he was not prepared to share his wife with another Dragon, even if he was only a halfling.

Zod's eyes flashed reptilian for a split second in decision.

As soon as Chloe was strong enough not to need the Willowbrook, he was going to kill the half Dragon.

Lovely new banner!!! Scales and claws love it!!!

So maybe Cassie and Mikhail will get their places and symbols at the same time.
I'm really not liking patty and Lionel. Hiding information and keeping secrets to suit their needs and plans. Chloe should shuck them out of the town, let's see if they keep their secrets them.

And dammit woman you still haven't said who it is.

Maple86 made the new banner as a gift! I always love receiving fan art! :)

Interesting theory.

Everyone (other than Chloe's & Lex's Circle) seems to know something they aren't willing to share, huh?

No, thank YOU :) It seriously makes my day that you'd take the time to do something like that. Thanks!

I hope either John or Lionel know something about the stones. Preferably the Echo because he has to help Chloe and Lionel'll probably want something in return.

Love the Scales and Claws banner.

The Echo would *definitely* be more reliable!

Maple86 can be thanked for the new banner!!!
