Summary: Chloe Sullivan had a normal-ish life before the circle and John Blackwell turned her life upside down and gave new meaning to the unexplained weirdness that goes on in Smallville. Now life's a witch, she's a part of a circle she's not too sure she wants to be bound to, and not only do they have to worry about Witch-Hunters, but unknowingly to them another circle is on the hunt too.

Chloe felt like a broken doll, a shell with a crack in which all that made her human had seeped out of. She was an empty, cold vessel who felt nothing but coldness and darkness as she stood over the bodies of her brothers and sisters, their blood mingling on the floor at her feet.

"We've found it, My Lord," a voice announced, Desaad and Granny Goodness appearing from a tunnel off to the side.

"No!" Vika Balcoin screamed as she saw what hovered between them, but she was forced on her face by magic when she tried to stand. "What are you doing? Leave her! Don't desecrate her resting place like this!"

Rao moved towards the Dragon Egg of his first daughter, Trista, eyeing it. "I sense no form of life, this child, although yours, was weak." He turned to look at Vika. "As I thought, this shell holds nothing but energy now, magic, the half which belongs to my daughter and needs to be returned to her if she is to do what I need her to do."

Chloe took a step back. "I don't want your dead kid's magic. I've had enough dead people's magic shoved down my throat. I don't want Trista's too."

"It was never hers because she never existed, thanks to Vika." Rao raised an eyebrow as he moved towards the egg. "This magic is rightfully yours, it is the half of the magic you were born with and was alwaysgoing to return to you. The moment you were to take control of these caves, the shell would have dissolved and the power would have entered you."

"What?" Vika whispered, eyes wide.

"You are incomplete, Chloe, always have been." Rao's nails turned to claws, which he used to puncture deep within the shell of Trista's egg.

"No!" Vika screamed as she struggled in vain to get off of the ground.

Chloe gasped as she clutched at her stomach, eyes wide, feeling as if he'd punctured through her. "What are you doing?"

He smirked. "I'm making you whole for the first time in your life."

And with that he destroyed Trista Balcoin-Darkseid's Dragon Egg.

"NO!" Vika screamed in horror, tears falling down her face.

Power, light and darkness erupted from the destroyed Dragon Egg and raced towards Chloe, enveloping her like a tornado. Magic clashed like lightning and thunder, lava burning deep within her body and soul as Chloe screamed, clawing at her skin and tearing at her hair, gasping for breath as the heat intensified. It alternated from going so dark she couldn't see to so bright, closing her eyes tightly and covering them with her hands wasn't enough to keep the brightness from scalding her eyes.

Indescribable pain filled her through each and every pore in her body, the girl twisting and turning in unnatural ways as the magic inside of her reacted violently. She was shocked because she was supposed to be just a subconscious, just memories, basically an Echo at best, and yet she could feel her magic now as if she were alive once more-more alive than she'd ever been-and it hurt! She screamed as her skin cracked visibly, light and darkness intermingling. Her feet lifted off of the ground and that terrified her, the sound that escaped her lips was far from something she wanted to admit she'd let out, but she was in pain and scared and alone and felt like she was being tortured and killed only to be brought back alive for the process to start over again. Inside of her felt like it was being ripped apart over and over and over again before being heated up, as if by molten lava.

"What are you doing to her?" Vika screamed from the floor. "You're going to kill her!"

"No, you killed her." Rao muttered. "That is far from what I plan on doing with her."

Chloe screamed as her back arched up at an awkward angle, and she felt the scales down her spine on fire.

"You're torturing her!"

"Stop acting as if you care, Vika."

Suddenly the magical tornado swooped inside of Chloe's body through her mouth and the blonde collapsed onto the ground hard, skinning her knees and palms on the hard rock floor in the process as she coughed, her skin and eyes glowing as the magical storm seemed to continue within her. Weakness overcame her and she fell to her side on the ground, disoriented as her eyes slid shut.

"Chloe?" Vika's voice was distorted and worried. "Are you hurt?"

The sound of fluttering wings, and the feeling of soft breeze on her face, coaxed Chloe's eyes opened. She stared up as her foggy vision cleared to see a hummingbird flying above her face.

The blonde stared at it in confusion and she didn't know why she felt such comfort and utter sadness as she stared up at it, tears filling her eyes as she gazed up at the tiny yet beautiful bird. Tears fell silently down her pale cheeks as she lifted her hand up towards the hummingbird and softly caressed its delicate, multicolored plumage.

The second her fingers touched the hummingbird, flashes of magic, of something, jolted between them, and she narrowed her eyes in confusion as she continued to stare up at it. Chloe's lips parted in shocked recognition. "It's you."

Suddenly she was grabbed by her arm and yanked up, distracting Chloe as she turned to face Adam, her eyes widening. "Adam?"

His eyes widened. "You can see me now?"

"I can hear you too." Her voice was soft in shock. "How? I don't have John's magic in me."

"I don't know." Adam stared at her in shock before he suddenly grunted and held onto his stomach and groaned, before his blues rose to her seconds before he went up in flames and became nothing but ash.

"Adam?" Chloe whispered in horror as her gaze darted immediately towards John in time to find his dead body bleeding over what looked to be another Dragon Egg. "No."

The Dragon's Egg shell turned red with John Balcoin's blood, and once that had happened the dead witch's body was tossed aside, no longer needed.

"Don't worry, my child. Once you're Hatched, you won't remember any of this," Rao whispered behind her as his hands came down hard on her shoulders, the girl now able to be touched. "All that has happened will be like a nightmare you won't be able to remember once you awake."

"It's time," Zod drew closer, blood smeared on his cheek, eyebrow raised. "We should start now."

Rao nodded. "Keep an eye on her."

He moved towards the egg, determined, attention solely on it.

Chloe turned her greens on Zod, voice lowered. "Whatever he's doing, you can't let him do it."

He turned his eyes on her curiously. "Why wouldn't I?"

"Because you're my ally, not his," she begged. "You're on my side."

Zod frowned, eyes narrowed as he tilted his head and observed her. "Why would I ever turn my back on my kind for a halfling, no matter what reality?"

She clenched her fists. "Because…" she licked her lips. "Because…"

"Your reasons are earth-shattering."

She closed her eyes tightly and lowered her head. "Because he destroyed your world. Because someone from your Council Melded you and I together. Because you feel it's your obligation to continue the Draconian species and for some reason you seem to think I'm the only suitable person who can have your hatchlings." Her hands were shaking with how tightly she had her fists clutched. "Because you are delusional and think making me have five hatchlings is fair. Because Rao gave me to someone else, another Dragon he had made specifically for me, and you're going to kill him because you refuse to share me with another of your kind no matter how stupid I think that is since I've told you I'm not marrying either of you. Because you think that children with my hair and your eyes would be a beautiful mix…" she licked her lips as she took in a deep breath. "Because I mightn't know this you, I mightn't know General Zod, but I know Dru-Zod. Because I know the man who lost his first wife and son, and even though he wouldn't tell me how, and even though honor and obedience to the Council meant so much to him, he refused to even considering letting me come back and have our possible future hatchlings in Apokalips and I have a feeling it had to do with the death of his wife and child." She turned to stare up at him. "Because when I was killed, you fought desperately to get to me, fought so hard in this very cave the walls were shaking and rocks were falling everywhere."

Zod stared down at her in silence.

"Because if Rao's right, and I'm reborn without any of these memories, then I'm not going to be the person that I am right now and this won't matter." She lifted the back of her shirt to reveal the two marks on her skin, one of them his, and she could see the immediate response on his face, the way his eyes went reptilian and his scales appeared on his cheekbones. "You won't have been the Dragon who annoys the hell out of me, or the Dragon who says "strategically" way too much, or the Dragon who jumped into the lake after me as I was drowning, or the Dragon who fought desperately to try and get to me as I was being killed, or the Dragon who put on two life-sucking bracelets to help save my life. You'll just be my assigned breeder, nothing more, nothing less." She paused. "I don't know… I don't know this version of you, maybe General Zod is okay with that." She lifted her chin. "But Major Zod sure as hell wouldn't have been."

He continued to stare down at her before he finally looked away. "Your situation is beyond help."

She stared at him before she licked her lips. "But will you help me anyway?"

Zod didn't answer.

Chloe opened her mouth to press when a flutter of wings caught her attention and she realized that Rao was picking up Pete's unconscious body. "What are you doing?"

Rao smirked as he easily lifted the boy and held him up over the egg. "When you failed to hatch, some of your magic entered him. Before you can hatch, it has to return."

Her eyes widened in horror as she realized what he was about to do, the blonde bolting towards them. "No!"

But Rao was too fast, his claw hands slashing open Pete's throat as he chanted words in Draconian, magic and blood pouring out onto the egg.

And then Chloe wasn't in the caves anymore, she was instead inside the Black Church, the Dragon Egg hovering over the baptismal font, which was dripping pools of blood onto the ground.

A flutter of wings caught her attention and she turned to see the hummingbird had made the journey with her, the small creature flying around the egg worriedly, and she realized why when cracks of light and darkness began to appear all over the shell.

"No." Chloe hurried to the baptismal font, nearly slipping in the thick blood all around her feet, before she finally made it to the egg. "I can't-this can't-no!" She clutched at the rim of the font, the blood soaking her hands as she stared at the egg. "There has to be something I can do!"

The hummingbird flew around her.

"I don't understand what you're trying to tell me!"

That was when she noticed it, the light within the blood by her hands. The blonde narrowed her eyes as she reached into the bloodied baptismal font, her arms all the way in to her shoulders, before the tips of her fingers touched something and she managed to pull it out.

Once she did, her eyes widened as she realized that in her hands was an hourglass, just like the one in the shadows in the other reality.

There was an Omega symbol on the hourglass, and yet it was slightly different than hers and Rao's, along with rhyme written beneath the symbol.

"Turn back the sands of time in this hourglass

To right the wrongs committed in times pass'd

But beware, magic great comes at a cost

Once all is right, something valued must be lost."

She stared at the hourglass in shock.

It was almost as if someone had known she'd be here and would need this.

Diana's words right before her death came back to haunt her: "You need to know that there's someone else working in the background here. I don't know who it is, but that person is the one who led you in the other reality to get to the caves, and I think there's a chance to get that other, better reality back."

Chloe didn't even stop to considering who this other person could be, she turned the hourglass over and closed her eyes tightly, not caring if she was making a deal with the devil.

Nothing could be worse than this reality and this life now.

The cracks in the shell grew worse, the darkness and light mingling as the magic within the Dragon Egg exploded.

The hummingbird fluttered around in the white nothingness of the in-between.

"You've Seen what you've had to See and are the only one who will remember what happened in this other lifetime." A male voice echoed off of the brightness. "You know what will happen, you know what must be done to make sure that that doesn't come to pass." There was a pause. "What everything really boils down to, is, are you truly worthy of the title, and position, of Prophet."

Faye's throat was horribly sore by the time she finally awoke. She was disoriented, half caught up in the memories of being killed and living in the body of a hummingbird, observing everything that was happening on the other side through that vessel almost as if omnipresent, able to be everywhere at once and know what had happened where. It took her a couple of seconds to realize that instead of in that nightmare reality she was in the real one, on the ground, Byron and everyone else around her.

Byron reached for her, and for a second Dark!Byron snapping Diana's neck flashed before Faye's eyes and she couldn't help herself, couldn't keep from flinching away from his touch, and she hated herself for the confusion and hurt in his features. He couldn't understand why she'd done that, Faye knew it, but she couldn't explain it, didn't have the time. Not now.

"What happened to you?" Greg frowned as he looked down at her. "You were screaming for twenty minutes straight."

"I have to go." Faye took in a deep breath as she pictured the room in the Genesis Caves and closed her eyes tightly.

"You need to tell us what's going on." Patricia reached for her.

Zatanna slapped her hand away. "Leave her alone."

Faye opened her eyes and turned them on Zatanna questioningly.

Zatanna stared at Faye but was still talking to Patricia. "If she needs to go, Chloe needs her."

Faye nodded, thankful to Zatanna for once. "She needs me. I can help. I will help. I won't let that happen… no matter what."

She then turned to Byron and reached out for him, pressing a kiss to his lips before she pulled away and closed her eyes tightly. Imagining the room in the Genesis Caves once more, she connected with Chloe, and then was gone.
