Summary: Chloe Sullivan had a normal-ish life before the circle and John Blackwell turned her life upside down and gave new meaning to the unexplained weirdness that goes on in Smallville. Now life's a witch, she's a part of a circle she's not too sure she wants to be bound to, and not only do they have to worry about Witch-Hunters, but unknowingly to them another circle is on the hunt too.

"No one asked for your opinion!" Jason glared at Zod. "I know you're just a coldblooded lizard, but she's a teenaged girl, not a infectiously ill puppy that needs to be put down before it can infect the rest of the litter!"

"Humanity," Zod huffed in irritation as he shook his head at the sandy-blonde. "All those troublesome emotions keep you from being levelheaded, keep you from seeing plain solutions when they lay right in front of you, and keep you from being strong enough to do what needs to be done." His eyes narrowed on Jason, those eyes flashing reptilian for a split second. "You dishonor the sacrifice this girl is willing to make for her sister."

Jason sneered. "As if you actually care about any of that."

"Contrary to your beliefs, honor, especially in the face of fear, is something I value and admire, especially in a species I find so beneath mine." Zod's gaze went to Cassie thoughtfully. "Unlike the halfling, my senses aren't diluted. I can smell how much this frightens you, the fear is rising off of you in waves, but I can also sense that you are determined to go through with this." He brought his hand to his chest and gave a very slight bow of his head. "If you are truly willing to give your life for her, I will promise to take it. You can be assured that, unlike the others, I will not hesitate."

Cassie licked her lips and nodded. "I know." She took in a deep breath and closed her eyes. "I was hoping you'd volunteer for the job."

"Cassie don't be-!" Jason moved towards her but his way was blocked by Faye, who held her arm out in front of him. His eyes widened in horror as he turned towards her. "You can't seriously be considering letting him-!"

"Yes," but it wasn't Faye who answered, it was Whitney. The Sanguine stood by Chloe's side, pale, a blank expression on his face as he stared at Zod and Cassie. "I don't like it, but it has to be done."

"She's your friend!" Jason stared at them in horror.

"She's Rao's host," Faye's eyes narrowed on the older witch. "Means whether she wants it or not, she's the enemy too, and she's putting Chloe's life in danger every second she breathes."

Jason shook his head. "You can't really-." He turned to Whitney. "Chloe's never going to forgive you if-!"

"She never has to know. We'll tell her Rao flipped some sort of kill-switch in Cassie's head once he realized that we found out she was a host, and she was therefore no longer useful to him." Whitney watched as Zod's hand transformed from humanoid to something in-between, claws and all.

Faye looked pale all of a sudden as she realized the way in which Cassie was going to die.

"Cassie, don't let him do this!" Jason yelled at the blonde. "Chloe wouldn't want you dead! Host or not! You've got to know her enough to know that by now!"

Cassie's eyes flashed opened and she glared viciously at him. "Stay out of this, Coach Teague! This doesn't concern you!" Her gaze went to Whitney and Faye. "If he tries to step in and stop Zod, you two stop him by any means necessary, you get it? You put him down hard if you have to!"

Whitney nodded.

"Was already planning on to," Faye admitted.

Jason frowned at Cassie in utter confusion. "You can't be really willing to die."

Cassie ignored him as she turned to level her gaze on Zod. "Hey, Goku? Tell her to kick Rao's ass."

Zod tilted his head in confusion at the name but didn't query it, merely nodded. "I will, though I doubt it will need to be said, especially after this."

Cassie's eyes began to fill with tears but she fought them as she lifted her chin and took in a deep breath. "Also, tell her that I'm sorry I was such a brat all the time and that… I don't even remember if I've ever told her this… but thank you." The girl lifted her shaking hands to wipe at the tears falling down her pale cheeks. "Tell her for the first time in the long time she gave me a place I really felt was my home, drama and all, and I felt like I was family." Her voice wobbled slightly but Cassie fought to remain in control. "And tell her… Tell her… " she cleared her throat and took in a deep breath as she stood taller. Her blues found Zod's and held them hard. "Tell her I love her."

Zod nodded.

Whitney's gaze lowered to Chloe and he trailed his thumb over her forehead.

Jason clenched his fists. "This isn't right."

Faye was pale, gaze on Cassie and Zod, and yet her words were obviously meant for Jason when she hissed: "Try to stop it, and I'll cut you down."

Cassie closed her eyes and took in a deep breath as she tilted her head back and held her arms out, a willing lamb to the slaughter.

Zod didn't hesitate, thrusting his claws viciously towards the girl's chest.

Suddenly shadows shot up between Cassie and Zod, solidifying and blocking his attack completely.

Jason's eyes widened in shock. "What the-?"

Soft chuckles of relief caught his attention and he looked between Faye and Whitney, his eyes widening as he saw the stark relief as they shared knowing smiles, as if something they'd suspected all along had been confirmed.

In fact, now that he really paid attention to it, Jason realized that even Zod's lips were curled in a knowing smirk as he attacked the blonde at every side, and yet the shadows would rise up and protect her by blocking his attempts to get at her.

Cassie seemed to be the only one other than Jason who was genuinely confused as to what the hell was going on and why she wasn't dead.

Suddenly, the hidden Omega symbol Rao had placed on her forehead lit up angrily, causing Cassie to scream in agony as she collapsed to her knees on the ground, the darkness swallowing her completely and removing her from sight, and yet her screams were still audible. Everyone tried going for her and yet they couldn't, finding the darkness that was up to their chests now thick like molasses and keeping them stuck where they were, unable to do anything but listen as Cassie screamed and begged for the pain to end.

And then the screaming stopped, and the silence was a much more horrible thing than the screaming had ever been.

"Cassie?" Faye yelled as she tried to get free. "Are you dead?"

"We have to get to her." Whitney's eyes flashed red as he gave a jerk in the darkness.

Zod didn't speak, his eyes narrowed on the spot where Cassie had disappeared.

"How did you know?" Jason asked softly, not even fighting the darkness. "You all knew."

"Know what?" Faye turned her gaze on him.

"That Zod wasn't going to be able to kill her." Jason had to admit that that bothered him, and a lot.

"Because this darkness, whatever it is, is a part of Chloe," Whitney replied with a little smile. "Means a part of her is conscious."

"And no matter how annoying Cassie is, Chloe's not going to let her go through the whole noble sacrifice thing just to save her life." Faye smirked, her single dimple appearing deep in her cheek. "She just had to believe, they both did, that Cassie was going to die-for her."

"I still don't get it." And he hated it more and more. "What good does that do? What does that prove?"

Suddenly light erupted from the darkness.

Zod snorted, his lips twisted in a smirk. "That. It proves that."

How was it that Zod, who was a Dragon, and still new to everything, still know more and fit in so much better than him?

"What's 'that'?"Jason clutched his hands into fists.

"A Claiming," Chloe's voice announced behind them, causing the four teens to turn to see Claws and Scales leaning against the cave wall, as Cassie began to levitate out of the darkness. Scales, in a golden snakeskin miniskirt, black Chinese-style shirt, and dangerously tall stilettos, smirked. "Rao is about to lose another host."

Claws, wearing a black lolita dress and knee-high combat boots, smirked as she folded her arms over her chest. "Considering he's some all-mighty Dragon now it's ridiculously easy to do so."

"Don't get too cocky," Scales admonished. "The only reason it was easy to do so is because Cassie has no bond with him, she does with Chloe. If the fight was over someone without any ties to either side then that would be tricky."

Claws pouted. "You're a party pooper, you know that?"

"I have to think for the both of us, not everyone can get by on pure muscle." Scales rolled her eyes.

Jason stepped closer to them before realizing that he could, the darkness not molasses-thick anymore. "Wait, she's Claimed now? She's a part of Chloe's Circle?"

"Yep." Scales nodded as she pointed to Cassie, who was being lowered onto the same table as Vika. "That was some excellent work, tricky and cunning, getting Chloe to get us to finish her side of the Claim since she wasn't conscious to do so herself." She smirked at Faye, Whitney and Zod. "But anyway, you were right in your theory that Cassie unconsciously Claimed Chloe when she chose to die for her, and her actually letting down that barrier inside of her enough to become vulnerable enough to say the 'I Love You' was a good touch as well. It helped in connecting them. It was smart." Her gaze went to Zod. "I like you." She smirked. "Even if you're a Dragon."

"Stop belittling my kind, Wyvern, we're superior, get over it." Claws made a face at Scales before she turned her gaze at the others. "With Cassie having made her Claim, Chloe, through us, could accept her and make her own Claim, and effectively steal her from Rao."

"How did you know Chloe would be able to use these two?" Jason asked the witches present as he motioned towards the dual physical manifestations of Chloe's magic. "They haven't been present for a very long time."

"Because we haven't been able to." Claws pouted, obviously unhappy with how she was being addressed. "Unless you haven't noticed, she's been basically powerless."

"But the fact that the darkness is so strong in here proves that she's gotten her magic back," Whitney announced, the attention turning on him. "At least to some basic, instinctive degree."

"Exactly." Faye ran her fingers through her hair. "When she didn't have magic in her she forced it out to save my life. It's how I knew that even if she's very weak now, even if she's unconscious, she would somehow find a way to Claim and save Cassie." Faye's expression went tender. "Because that's just how Chloe is."

Jason stared at them and took in a deep breath, feeling like he'd let everyone down by not realizing all of this, but that he'd let himself down especially.

Suddenly, Cassie awoke and sat up as she gasped for breath, her eyes wide as she held her palm out and cried out as a symbol began to burn itself into her palm. "What's happening-how-I'm-how?"

Scales eyed her and smiled. "Welcome, Fifth."

Faye's eyes widened in utter, unspeakable horror. "No."

Whitney blinked. "I wasn't expecting that."

Zod eyed Cassie thoughtfully.

Jason blinked in curiosity. "Fifth?"

"We needed a Thunderbird, and like the Sanguine, I see the makings of a great warrior in this one." Claws smirked as she moved forwards. "Anyway, it wasn't like she could go to the other Circle, not with our mark already on her."

Cassie looked up at them with wide blue eyes, her palm turned towards them to reveal the symbol of a Thunderbird, and on her forehead, an Omega sign flashed its claiming mark.

"What's happening?" Byron snapped as he shot to his feet and stormed to the equipment. "Why has it all gone dark?"

"Something's messing with the equipment, some sort of interference." Patricia narrowed her eyes as she and Oliver joined Byron at the equipment, the brunette typing in commands. "Something must be happening inside of the Genesis Caves."

"We can't just sit here and do nothing!" Byron snapped.

"Get a hold of yourself, Balcoin." Oliver joined Patricia at the keyboards, typing in commands. "If you're just going to be a bother and not help, back off."

Byron flinched and backed away.

"I'm sure they're fine, honey," Mrs Arkin whispered.

Greg sat in silence on the sofa, staring ahead of him blankly, clenching his fists tightly.

Zatanna was calm and collected, and yet she was always like that from years of having to keep her cool while being chased by monsters that were trying to kill her.

Byron went to lean hard against the wall, his fists shaking as he clenched them tightly at his sides.

Zatanna finally stood and took in a deep breath. "I am going to go to the Bleeding Caves and see if they are having similar communication issues."

Greg stood immediately. "I'll go with you. I can't just stay here and continue doing nothing. I'll go insane." He turned to Byron. "You waiting for a written invitation or something?"

Byron stared at the older boy before he finally cracked a small smile and pushed away from the wall.

"Any idea as to why the ritual isn't working now that the connection to Rao is severed?" Faye wanted to know, arms folded over her chest.

"Oh, that wasn't the reason why the ritual was halted, that was just an added bonus." Scales leaned over Chloe and poked her nose playfully before she looked up at the others.

"What?" Whitney frowned as he stepped forwards. "Then why was the ritual interrupted?"

"Don't look at us." Claws rolled her eyes as she circled around towards Vika. "Blame the Genesis Caves, it was all their doing."

"What do you mean the caves stopped the ritual?" Jason turned towards her.

"Well, they did want the connection to Rao gone, you do have that right," Scales admitted as she eyed Cassie, who was still smiling softly at her palm. "But they also want more conditions before they'll allow the ritual to be continued."

Faye blinked. "We're being blackmailed by a cave system?"

"What are these conditions?" Zod frowned as he stepped forwards, apparently not at all phased by the turn of events.

"That, gone." Claws motioned to Trista's egg. "They want it where it belongs."

"Which is where?" Jason wanted to know.

Faye's eyes widened. "Inside of Chloe."

Zod nodded. "Fine."

"You don't get to make deals like that on your own!" Jason snapped.

Zod ignored him, eyes on Claws. "What other conditions?"

Scales looked around her and sighed. "To be united again, with its Sisters, under Chloe's rulership. That's why it was warning her against Vika's plans. It wants Chloe to take over."

"That is why we're here." Zod raised an eyebrow. "I see no reason to make this a condition."

Scales and Claws shared a look before Claws raised her chin. "Vika has bound herself to the Genesis Caves, so for Chloe to take them over, she has to kill Vika."

The Dragon didn't hesitate. "Done."

"You're going too far!" Jason snarled. "Vika might have been our enemy before but she's our ally now. You can't-!"

"If we do not agree to these terms, the ritual will not be completed, and if so Chloe will die." Zod didn't look away from Claws and Scales. "In contrast, do you really believe I give adamn about the life of a some mortal who should have died a long time ago?"

"Last condition," Claws licked her lips. "Don't ask me why, we don't know, but the condition is that once the war is over, and peace has been achieved, Chloe has to spend an unspecified amount of time out of the year in the Caves. It's the most important requirement."

For the first time Zod showed hesitation.

"We can't accept this for her, she's completely knocked out after the Claiming, and couldn't given us an indication of what she'd want even if she'd want to." Scales stepped forwards. "We're merely voice-pieces for the Caves."

"How long?" Whitney wanted to know.

"Will she have to be in the caves?" Claws asked, and then paused when he nodded. "Undetermined, but it will be a yearly event, so I doubt it will be a horribly long amount of time."

"Done." Cassie spoke as she hugged herself. "If it saves her, done."

Scales and Claws exchanged a look before nodding. "You might want to cover your eyes."

They then disappeared, along with the darkness, as it quickly returned deep within Chloe's solar plexus.

And with that, there was an intense explosion of blinding light that swept throughout the entire cave system.

Oh Yay! Update Yay!

I love Scales and Claws (Scales is still my favourite. Wyverns rule!) Cassie made the team. Darkside circle's filled up fast. I mean if Byron joins it'll be complete. Balcoin needs to get it's act together.

Chloe will be pissed about the genesis caves blackmailing her circle while she's unconscious.

When I read thunderbird I thought puppets. I've now got the theme tune stuck in my head. Also Dragonball Z!
