Summary: Chloe Sullivan had a normal-ish life before the circle and John Blackwell turned her life upside down and gave new meaning to the unexplained weirdness that goes on in Smallville. Now life's a witch, she's a part of a circle she's not too sure she wants to be bound to, and not only do they have to worry about Witch-Hunters, but unknowingly to them another circle is on the hunt too.

Whitney didn't understand what was happening, not to Chloe, and definitely not to himself. He could feel a frightening chill settling in his chest, and it wasn't coldness like the ice claiming Chloe little by little. No, it was a different sort of chill that clutched at his heart and hardened it with every beat. If something happened to Chloe because Mikhail and Pete couldn't pick a better time to let their hostilities get the better of them he was going to kill them both. It wasn't a furious promise to avenge her death, or a desperate hiss of retribution should harm come upon her. No. It was a cold, emotionlessknowing. It was a fact, something he knew to be absolutely true.

He would kill them.

The realization should worry him, as should the fact that the thought of killing them didn't bother him in the least bit, but at the moment the only thing that occupied Whitney's mind was concern for Chloe's safety. She was cold-so cold. He got that this wasn't her actual physical body, just a psychic manifestation, and that worried him even more. If she was psychically manifesting these sorts of symptoms, physically she couldn't be doing too well at all.

Ghost pains flashed through his body and that chill hardened his heart further as Chloe's shivering increased, her cheek resting against his heartbeat.

Accommodating her weight in his arms, Whitney continued on, conscious of the wary gazes on his back.

Everything was in flames, chaos and confusion mixing in hellish symphony. People screamed and tried to get to safety as around them the fortress began to crumble, to come crashing down in a fiery heap all around them.

He took advantage of the confusion as he made his escape, the man hurrying through the shadows and ducking out of sight as he continued to make his way to freedom. In hindsight he hadn't needed to take so many precautions because with the commotion his captors hadn't given him a second look.

Only once the fortress was a blazing signal in the distance did he stop to look back.

He was free, finally free.

Taking in a deep breath, he looked in the direction of his destination.

Wormlike creatures moved visibly under his skin as Charles Meade took his first step towards Smallville.

Diana looked around her, eyes narrowed as she clutched a hand to her heart.

Lucas licked his lips as he eyed her with a dark frown, unhappy with the fact that in a moment like this all he could do was use his magic to move bodies outside of the poisoned room while she did the truly important work. "Well?"

She didn't answer him at first, instead seemed to be communing with something he couldn't see, before her dark orbs leveled with his and the hand clutched to her heart clenched tighter. "I can't get a good fix on her."

"Maybe you're not as powerful an Eye as you believed yourself to be." Zod's voice pierced the miasma. "It is not as if she is a great distance away, she's right there."

"No need to be such a dick right now, Zod," Jason's voice joined his. "The girl is under enough stress as it is."

"I am merely saying what everyone is thinking," the Dragon declared tranquilly.

Lucas could see what the Dragon was doing, and with most of the people in Chloe's Circles the principle was sound, but it wasn't with Diana. Angering the brunette wasn't the way to go. She wasn't Cassie, who would definitely respond favorably to that sort of challenge.

As expected, instead of being riled up and desperate to prove Zod wrong-to avenge her bruised ego-Diana's face flashed with insecurity.

Letting out a dark sigh, Lucas turned to her as he let Byron drop carefully to the ground. "What is the Third Eye's main purpose in the Balcoin Circle?"

Diana turned to him in confusion before she cleared her throat. "The Third Eye is a spiritual connection to the Soul, an adviser, and if need be, a fierce protector. Unlike the Hands, whose connection rely on touch, the Eye can connect with the Soul without touching because-."

"-because the 'eyes are the windows to the soul', right?" Lucas raised an eyebrow expectantly. "So find that window and pry it open because you're the only one who can." As an afterthought he added: "Stop stressing out and being such a girl about this. Just be the Eye. You've done this before, you can do it again."

Surprisingly enough, Diana gave a little chuckle as she eyed him. "You know, you're actually good at this."

He was somewhat insulted. "I was the one that John used to leave in charge of the guys while he was away, you know. I have more to me than just my good looks."

She rolled her eyes and turned her gaze to Chloe. "Do you miss those days?"

This was not the time or place for this most awkward conversation, especially not with one of John's killers. "That's really none of your business, Meade."

"Balcoin." Diana sent him a frown before her gaze returned to Chloe. "I'm a Balcoin."

"Whatever." Lucas rolled his eyes. "Prove that you're worth that name and get through to Ma."

Diana's lips twitched. "She hates it when you call her that."

"Why do you think I do it?"

Diana licked her lips. "Because, deep down inside, you really feel that way towards her? It's why you don't flirt with her anymore?"

He glared at her. "Quit stalling already. If you're not good enough to actually do your own damned-."

"I hit a nerve, huh?" Diana let out a sigh as she pursed her lips. "Didn't mean to make you uncomfortable. Just, uh, wanted to say I got it. I mean, I never had a mother either but I feel like I do now." Her lips twisted in a smirk. "Which is ridiculous considering she's barely a year older than I am."

Lucas cleared his throat, highly uncomfortable with this conversation. "What is this, Doctor Phil?"

She eyed him before she licked her lips and looked about to say something which probably would've continued making him terribly uncomfortable, but her eyes suddenly widened and her pupils dilated.

Lucas' eyes narrowed in suspicion. "You found that window yet, Diana?"

She didn't answer.

This could be a good sign, so he left her to it, and went back to Byron.

She wasn't exactly sure where she was at this specific moment in time. She'd already been in her psyche before this had happened, so where exactly could she have gone from there?

It was as if she'd been broken down to a primordial level, had been rendered bodiless, and was now merely an awareness somewhere in some vastness.

With this awareness she could tell that Francis and John's magics had been completely claimed by her Balcoin magic. Her unified Balcoin magic was still settling though, becoming used to being fully hers, and with every bit of stray magic brought in heel and amalgamated into one mass, her Balcoin magic was a monstrous thing to behold.

The Hibbins magic was there too, and it shocked Chloe to sense the smaller, separate magic because, to be honest, she'd forgotten she even had it. The magic wasn't nearly close to the magnitude of the Balcoin or Darkseid powers inside of her, but it wasn't the weak, crippled thing she'd remembered it being referred to in the past. In fact, it looked eerily similar to her Balcoin magic in that it was assimilating. But what foreign Hibbins magic could she have possibly ingested that-?

Chloe's eyes widened.

Her mother's.

The blonde felt sick to her core as realization set in. She was assimilating Moira's Hibbins magic and making it her own. There'd been a connection between mother and daughter ever since Moira had attacked her in wolf-form and left those fang marks deep in her shoulder, fang marks Chloe still bore to this day. And as far as Chloe knew, Moira's body had been left inside of the Genesis Caves.

The Caves, like the Crystal Skull, must've acted like a container for Moira's magic after the witch died, and had funneled it into Chloe when the blonde had given the order to assimilate all of the stray magics.

This meant that the magics of both of her dead parents were inside of her.

The revelation floored her, and if she was physical and not just an awareness her knees would've given out on her in horror.

No more magic from her dead, psycho parents!

All she needed now was for something to happen to Rao, and for her to inherit his powers for some inexplicable reason, and she'd have the whole friggin set!

The thought made that sick feeling grow at the pit of her stomach.

But talking about Rao though-her Darkseid magic was in an upheaval. Why was that magic acting up? It shouldn't have any reason to be reacting at all. She got the Balcoin magic acting oddly, and she got the Hibbins magic acting up as well, but why in the world was the Darkseid magic so distressed? It wasn't assimilating magic into itself like the other two magics, that definitely wasn't it. No, it seemed very stressed, very aware, very… she wasn't exactly sure what to say about what she saw in her magic. It was awake and rumbling and reacting to something, as if to some outside stimulus… And that made her wonder if it wasn't because of that. Maybe this was what it looked like inside of her when she got dizzy and that awareness pierced through her. Whoever that other person was, he or she had the ability to send her Darkseid magic into an uproar, a panic, a-neither of those words were actually the correct way of expressing what she was seeing in her Darkseid magic but she really couldn't find the right word so for now they'd have to do.

Chloe looked around her, feeling herself forming into a body made of pure energy, eyes narrowed. "Hello?"

Her eyes widened. "Diana?"

The Eye of Ra flickered for a second in front of her. 'Chloe.'

Chloe stepped forwards in her new, translucent form. "Diana."

The Eye of Ra appeared in front of her and stayed there, hovering in the air. 'Oh thank the gods!'

Chloe eyed the Eye of Ra, from which Diana's voice was coming from. This was new. "Are you okay?"

'Am I-? Chloe! You're in serious trouble right now! Pete and Mikhail are subconsciously attacking each other, and that wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the poisonous miasma that is all over the room, and the barrier you've placed around them to protect them from it is getting the brunt of their attack.'The Eye of Ra vibrated with Diana's distressed voice. 'You need to get out of whatever trance-state you're in before you get permanent consequences. Lucas and I are taking everyone out of the spell room and the miasma, but we can't move you, Adam and Byron. Your barrier won't let us near.'

Chloe eyed the symbol. "Just you and Lucas?"

'The others are still unconscious. Lucas is right, we need more people bound in the Balcoin Circle. We're too mismatched in numbers.'

Chloe licked her lips before she took in a deep breath. "Take everyone out that you can and stay out. I'll deal with the rest myself."

'But Chloe-.'

"That's an order, Diana." She narrowed her eyes at the Eye of Ra. "You and Lucas get to safety the second you get the last person you can out of there, you understand?"

'I understand… But please, be careful.' The symbol flickered before it disappeared.

Chloe looked around at her magics before she cleared her throat. "Now… how exactly do I get back?"

The magics around her finished assimilating, John, Francis and Moira's magics completely claimed as hers.

The barrier disappeared around Greg, Cassie and Faye, shattering like glass visibly and audibly, shocking the teens and driving them back.

"Chloe lowered the barrier." Greg was sure of that as he looked around him.

"Willingly or because she's weakened and can't hold it up any longer?" Cassie wanted to know.

Greg narrowed his eyes. "Willing… I think."

"Good." Faye straightened her back as she moved to head in the direction Zatanna had disappeared in. "Let's go find the others."

She took a step, flickered, and then disappeared.

Cassie's eyes widened. "What the-?" She disappeared in mid question.

Greg looked around him in realization. "We're waking up." And with that he flickered out of that plane of existence and awoke with a loud gasp for air outside of the spellground. He brought one hand to his head and accepted the help Davis Bloome of all people offered him to his feet. "What's going on? Are we all out?"

Jason Teague stood as close to the cave room they'd been performing the spell in as a dark mist would allow him to. "The only one left in there is Chloe."

"Why isn't he waking up?" Faye knelt next to Byron, her gaze up at Councilman Jor and Morgan Edge for answers.

"Why aren't they waking up either?" Cassie eyed Zatanna, Mikhail, Pete, Whitney, Adam and Byron.

Suddenly Byron gasped as he sat up, his eyes black as night as he looked around him in disorientation. "Is it done? Am I bound?"

Faye threw her arms around her boyfriend's neck and hugged him tightly.

Confusion flittered over Byron's face as he hugged her, the boy's eyes slowly returning to normal as those orbs turned questioningly to his uncle. "What's going on?"

Pete and Mikhail awoke simultaneously, their breaths loud and desperate, the boys turning to each other in their disorientation.

"Where's Chloe?" Pete wanted to know in a strained tone.

"I don't know." Mikhail coughed, voice a wheeze. "But if something happens to her, I'm holding you personally responsible."

Byron's eyes narrowed darkly. "Seriously. What is going on?"

Well at least Chloe's magic is all settled (except the darkseid being difficult as usual). Lucas does way better pep talks than Zod not that that says much.

Yes, well, it *is* the Darkseid magic. Being difficult is like it's default setting.
