Summary: Chloe Sullivan had a normal-ish life before the circle and John Blackwell turned her life upside down and gave new meaning to the unexplained weirdness that goes on in Smallville. Now life's a witch, she's a part of a circle she's not too sure she wants to be bound to, and not only do they have to worry about Witch-Hunters, but unknowingly to them another circle is on the hunt too.

"Is it true?" Melissa hurried towards Clark, who was talking with some of the Lost Boys in front of the Balcoin House, the girl reaching out to grab her boyfriend's hand and gripping it tightly when he left the group and came towards her. "People are saying that the VI and Suicide Squad brought in a guy who had worms crawling under his skin-that sounds like he was demon possessed!"

Clark looked around before he pulled her aside. "Just how far is word spreading?"

"Oh crap, it is true?" Melissa's eyes widened in horror, wishing she was a fully fledged member of the Suicide Squad and not just a trainee at the moment. "Do you know how dangerous demons are?"

"It's under con-."

"I lost Nick to demons, Clark." Melissa grabbed his arm tightly.

Clark sighed as he stared down at her. "It'll be fine. I'll be fine."

Melissa stared up at him, millions of emotions in her eyes, before she hugged him tightly.

Dawn Chamberlain, of all people, stormed towards them.

Charles Meade's story would be ludicrous and beyond belief if it wasn't for the whirlwind of power that had been leaving Chloe nauseous for some time now. She'd known that there was something, someone, else out there, but a part of her had expected him or her to be on Rao's team. She hadn't expected the story Charles told. Apparently he hadn't been the only one who'd been held captive by Rao. There'd been someone else, someone Charles said had been under constant guard, lock and key.

"So he was dangerous enough that Rao didn't trust him to be alone for a second." Zod leaned against the wall behind Chloe's desk in her office, he was one of the only non-Circle members in attendance at this meeting.

"You want to talk about dangerous?" Cassie had been visibly on edge ever since she'd found out that her mother's killer was in Smallville, the pupils of the other blonde Balcoin's blue eyes pulsating slightly in her obvious effort to keep control over her emotions. "How about we bring up the elephant in the room and mention the demons he has inside of him?"

Diana licked her lips, having been silent for most of this interrogation, clearly conflicted considering that this was the man who'd raised her lovingly as a father for most of her life. "She has a point."

Charles' gaze turned to her before he sighed as he lowered his head and answered. "They're in a semi-dormant state right now. I'm in control." He paused. "They're the reason I believe he's after me."

Jake, who'd also had dealings with Charles and with these demons (and was the head of the VI, who'd brought him in), was also present for this meeting despite not being a part of one of her Circles. "What do you mean?"

Charles turned his dark gaze on the boy in charge of training the VI. "He attacked me, tried to do something to the things inside of me-he's the reason they're moving again-Rao had them completely dormant."

"Why-?" But Jake's question was cut short when a signal beeped in Chloe's desk and a screen flickered in the air in front of her, curtesy of Victor's many different installments in her home.

The girl eyed the screen and what it was showing her before she took in a deep breath and the screen disappeared, the blonde turning her green gaze to Faye. "Your mother is at the front door demanding to be let in. It seems that she has heard that Charles arrived in Smallville and wants to see her dear old friend."

A flash of embarrassment and annoyance colored Faye's face as she pushed away from the wall. "I'll deal with her."

"Faye," Chloe's voice stopped her movement.

"Yes?" Faye turned towards Chloe.

"Your mother was talking to Nell Potter, who is also waiting out there, as if they knew each other well." The blonde tilted her head to the side, expression thoughtful. "Find out more about that. A friendship between those two isn't something I would encourage."

Realizing she'd been dismissed for the rest of the meeting, Faye grumbled something against her mother as the magical wards over the room lifted long enough to let her out of the room.

As soon as the door closed behind her, the wards went back up.

Charles eyed Faye, almost in shock, before his gaze went to Chloe. "I've known that girl her whole life and never thought I'd live to see the day in which Faye Chamberlain was obedient."

Chloe had yet to actually address the man who'd killed Cassie's mom, and kept it that way as she sat in her chair, merely eyeing him.

"You mightn't live much longer, Meade," Jake, whose brother had been killed by Charles, narrowed his eyes. "Not if Chloe doesn't think you're worth keeping alive, so I'd be treading on eggshells if I were you." He smirked ugly. "I'd be more than happy to be the one to kill you myself."

Cassie glared at Jake. "Get in line."

Diana grew paler and paler and yet didn't say a word.

Chloe kept eyeing Diana and wondered just exactly what would be her breaking point. Sure, the girl was going by the surname 'Balcoin' now, and sure, Chloe didn't doubt for a second that Diana was loyal to her, but despite every bad thing this man had done, Charles Meade had been a wonderful father to Diana, and Diana had always loved him. This whole situation must be tearing her up inside.

"Jake, Greg, Cassie." Chloe stared at Charles as she spoke, her voice low. "I want the three of you to leave now and prepare groups to patrol our boundaries, make sure our wards are up and strong."

Everyone in that room knew that the reason Jake and Cassie were being sent because they were beginning to lose their cool and that Greg was only being sent as not to make it so obvious, and also because along with Whitney he headed up the Suicide Squad. Despite realizing that they were being dismissed, the blondes clenched their fists but nodded and obeyed without question or complaint.

"We'll make sure the Suicide Squad and VI work as a joint effort." Jake gave a little bow of his head. "We've been trying to think of a way to combine our training and this will be a good trial run."

Chloe nodded. "I agree."

Cassie sent Charles a seething look before she turned her blues on Lucas. "Protect her."

Chloe gave her youngest sister a tender little smile.

Lucas raised an eyebrow at the girl, folding his arms over his chest. "Like you had to tell me."

Cassie licked her lips before she and Jake turned and left.

Greg took a couple of backwards steps, saluted Chloe, and then turned around and followed the others, the wards lifting as they left, and then lowering as the door closed behind them.

Chloe took this moment to let her gaze sweep across the room, lingering on Diana, before her greens rested on Charles in time for the worm-like creatures to move visibly under his skin.

Diana turned away from the sight.

This was just too much for Diana, and while the brunette was obviously trying to be brave and show everyone-show herself-whose side she was on and that she could do this, Chloe didn't want to put her through this. Not needlessly.

Flicking her wrist, in love with this system Victor and Van had co-created for her, Chloe merely raised an eyebrow as screens flickered into existence all around them in the room to reveal what she'd suspected. News of their visitor's arrival in Smallville had spread, Nell Potter and Dawn Chamberlain far from the only people around Balcoin House. The townspeople were gathered and still gathering, worry and confusion on their faces, tension breaking out in little groups. "Diana."

The brunette looked up immediately.

"Word has gotten out and I don't want rumors or panic spreading amongst the people." Chloe eyed her dark haired sister. "They need to know that we are in here getting answers for any question they could have."

Diana nodded before excusing herself and leaving the room.

Charles watched her go.

Waiting until the wards came back up, Chloe finally turned to their 'guest', face going cold. "So, now that they're gone, how about you start telling the truth?"

Mikhail's head swung towards her, eyes narrowed. "What do you mean? What's he lying about?"

Charles' head slowly turned to Chloe, the man silent, his lips slowly curling in a smile. "So, you know."

Zod's eyes narrowed as he looked between the two.

Chloe pushed away from the desk and stood as she moved around it, a sneer on her face as she walked towards Charles. "How about you stop pretending that those constraints are actually holding you restrained?"

Byron's eyes widened as he looked towards Charles.

The man eyed Chloe before he chuckled and brushed off the magical constraints placed on him by the Suicide Squad as if they were childs play. "How long have you known it was me?"

Chloe gave a dark sneer as she tilted her head. "You've been in my head for weeks. Did you really think you could waltz into my town and I wouldn't recognize you?"

He reached out and ran his fingers against the tips of her golden locks. "I suppose I was hoping I wouldn't."

"I wouldn't get so informal with her if I were you." That was Zod.

Charles didn't even look up from Chloe, obviously not threatened by the growling Dragon in their midst. Then again, he'd come up against Rao and didn't even have a scratch to show for it. "I am here to give my thanks."

"I haven't done anything to be thanked for." She raised an eyebrow and fought the desire to bat his hand away because she wouldn't give him the pleasure of getting a reaction out of her, as was obviously his intention.

"On the contrary, it was you who freed me." His gaze rose to Adam. "Isn't that right, Doppelgänger?"

Chloe fought to keep from swinging her gaze towards Adam, to keep from showing her shock and confusion on her face.

"He felt the unbinding magic, felt it directed somewhere, just didn't know where and to whom." Charles, or the being inside Charles, eyed Adam before he turned his attention to Chloe, his hand going to her chin. "You freed me from that prison I was unjustly placed in-just like you were always supposed to."

Chloe narrowed her eyes at that one. "Excuse me?"

"Even Rao was manipulated, a part of a bigger picture." The man in front of her revealed. "Part of a much larger plan that was put into motion eras before he even hatched."

Chloe fought nausea as she realized this was a very old Dragon.

Zod pushed languidly away from the wall, his actions slow and precise. "So, you are from Apokalips."

Charles' lips curled as his gaze finally turned to Zod. "Yes, Dru-Zod. I am from Apokalips. From the true Apokalips… The Apokalips that existed before the Ruling Council destroyed all that made it what it was and made it into a mockery of its former self."

"Is that why you had Apokalips destroyed and why you're having it remade here on earth?" Chloe raised an eyebrow. "Is this the Apokalips you feel is the 'real' Apokalips? The 'pure' Apokalips before the Ruling Council destroyed or corrupted it?"

He smirked. "Maybe."

The blonde eyed him with narrowed eyes. "Who exactly are you?"

"I'm hurt you haven't figured that out as yet." He brought his hand to his heart in feigned pain.

"Yes, well, I hate the guessing game everyone seems to like to put me through." She raised an eyebrow. "Why not score yourself some points and just be blunt with me?"

He seemed to be considering it before he shook his head. "No. Instead, I will tell you that you have met my child."

Okay, first off, AWESOME chapter!!!

Second, I feel so smart! The Second Spin pesterings of the last few chapters have been answered! I knew you had a reason for not telling us who John'd vote off the island. I also knew that we hadn't heard the last of the leader of Black Zero. And I was totally confused that Charles Meade was the one who escaped from Rao-ville at the same time as the behind-the-scenes-mastermind. But I never, and I mean NEVER, would've put the pieces together in such an exciting and tension-filled way. Excellent job!

Third, is Chloe hating on Nell because she knows that Nell is inciting Pete to overthrow her/inherit the headship of the Balcoin family if *something* should happen to Chloe that 'just happens' to put Nell's niece's beau on the throne? Or is it just general principles? Vika's right, Chloe wouldn't usually throw anyone to the wolves like that, but Nell's an exception. You mess with the bull's explanation, you get the horns of popular discontent.

There's more to love about this, but I have limited time this weekend and I want to get back to Second Spinning and loving your old chapters. I'll be back.

It really *has*. Which is cool, because there *have* been foreshadowing in previous chapters that hadn't been picked up until now which you picked up on because of the Second Spinning… which I find seriously entertaining btw!
