Summary: Chloe Sullivan had a normal-ish life before the circle and John Blackwell turned her life upside down and gave new meaning to the unexplained weirdness that goes on in Smallville. Now life's a witch, she's a part of a circle she's not too sure she wants to be bound to, and not only do they have to worry about Witch-Hunters, but unknowingly to them another circle is on the hunt too.

Chloe had felt bad leaving Diana and Byron both in such emotional states, but that was exactly why she had to leave them. Diana was going through some understandably hard to deal with issues, and Chloe wasn't exactly sure what was going on with Byron, but she knew from experience that emotional Balcoins should be kept out of volatile situations. It would've been nice to have Byron around since she could usually depend on him and because she had to get the information out of his uncle, and yet Morgan Edge had given her the whereabouts of her mystery siblings without any problems whatsoever. That in itself made her wary but she'd driven there with her three Circle members plus Zod, who had invited himself along for the ride.

She couldn't believe that more siblings had been so close to her, only a couple of hours drive.

The girl wondered about these other siblings and knew that they must be quite powerful and competent considering that they were probably one of the only groups of witches who hadn't come to Smallville for protection. It made them so much more intriguing for her as she entered the abandoned hotel Morgan Edge had said she could find them in, the blonde immediately sensing a barrier up and yet getting through it with ease, her entourage following through as her shield came up around them and protected them from the fiery protections on the door.

Once they were safely on the other side the shield came down and Chloe looked back at the doorway, impressed not to see any charred remnants on the floor and such.

"I don't like the welcome." Cassie placed her hands on her hips. "I say they're trouble."

"You haven't even met them yet," Whitney reminded, although his eyes were narrowed around them, the boy obviously on the alert.

"I don't like this place." Zatanna made a face as she gazed around the dark place. "It's so dark. It reminds me of the caves where I grew up."

Zod was quiet as he gazed around them before his eyebrow raised. "We are being observed."

Suddenly blades rained down on them.

Chloe gazed upwards, her shield forming around them immediately, the blades hitting it harmless before falling to the ground. "Really? Attack first and ask questions later? Is that how you work?"

There was a rumbling sound and then a wall of water came crashing against the shield, covering them, and yet the group were safe and sound within.

Zod let out a little sneer, apparently far from impressed.

The water flowed away.

"Shouldn't we ask them who they are?" A female voice asked from somewhere.

"Shut up." Another female voice snapped.

Suddenly the earth beneath them trembled before rising rapidly, apparently about to smash them between the floor and the ceiling, and yet the shield held, the floor and ceiling crumbling at the force as the shield held.

"Okay, admit it, that's impressive." It was a boy this time.

Someone else must not have agreed because electricity shocked around the shield, looking for a weakness.

Chloe's eyes flashed black for a split second, and the electricity flew away, cries of pain heard from the darkness.

The attacks stopped.

Chloe hesitated before taking down the barrier. "We're here to talk."

Blades flew at them once more only for the shield to come back up.

Cassie raised an eyebrow. "Can we hurt them now?"

Chloe sent her a look before she cleared her throat. "If you don't stop attacking we'll start attacking you back." She raised her chin. "And we didn't come here to fight you."

"And what exactly did you come here for?" A voice sneered. "A social get-together?"

"I did, actually." Chloe could feel the confusion in the air. "I've been told there are Balcoins in this building." The confusion turned to mounting tension. "I wanted to know if it's true."

Suddenly a female jumped down from the shadows, her eyes and hair Balcoin dark, her skin tanned as she stepped forwards. "So what if there are, bitch?" She wore gloves, from which bladed spikes emerged when she clenched her fists. "Gonna do something about it?"

Chloe eyed the girl and smirked. "What's your name?"

"What's it to you?" She snapped viciously.

"These people have no manners." Cassie folded her arms over her chest, clearly not happy. "Why don't we just leave them here?"

"Cassie." Chloe scolded. "That's your sister."

Cassie snorted. "Not if I don't accept her she isn't."

Silence rained in the hotel, the girl's vicious expression turning into confused wariness.

There was movement in the darkness as more and more of them stepped out into the light. There were six of them in total, but if Morgan Edge could be trusted, one of them was not related to Chloe and had just become a part of the group by association.

"I agree with the Thunderbird," Zod eyed the group assembled in front of them. "These witches look unimpressive and to be honest, I don't like the way they smell."

"You saying we stink?" One of the boys snarled.

Zod smirked. "Do not tell me that you have grown so used to the putrid smell surrounding you that you no longer smell anything."

"Why you-!" Another of the boys snarled and came forwards.

A girl, blonde with dark brown eyes, cleared her throat as she moved forwards, her eyes on Cassie. "D-did you say 'sister'?"

Cassie stared at the other blonde before she let out a sigh. "You a Balcoin too?"

The girl gulped before she nodded and lifted her palm to show the Balcoin symbol burnt into the flesh. "So are you?"

Cassie nodded as she raised her own palm.

The unnamed blonde's eyes widened as she took a step forwards. "You really are our sister!"

"That's enough." The tanned girl, who was obviously the leader, snapped at the blonde. "Why would you tell them all that?"

The blonde shrunk back, hugging herself. "Sorry Harriet."

"And now you've gone and given them my name." A muscle jumped in Harriet's cheek as she turned her dark eyes back on the group. "Who the hell are you people and what do you want?"

"I want to invite you all to Smallville." Chloe stepped forwards. "It's safer there. We live as a community."

One of the boys snorted. "So you've got a Balcoin under your control and you think you can have more power by adding another one to your Circle? Well, no thank you. We're not going to be used-." His rant died off when Chloe lifted both her palms. "The Firstborn."

Hissed whispers came from the group.

Harriet raised her chin. "You're the Balcoin I've been hearing whispers about from those leaving Smallville." She raised her chin. "You're weak and foolishly sentimental. All those people should've been killed." She folded her arms over her chest. "I would never put my brothers and sisters in jeopardy by making them stay under your rule."

"Watch how you speak to her." Zatanna glared.

Harriet smirked. "What are you going to do to me if I don't?"

Chloe held her hand out to stop Zatanna when the girl moved forwards. "Nothing. We didn't come here to fight, only to talk." She ignored Harriet, something she sensed pissed the other girl off, and turned her gaze on the others. "I didn't know you existed but apparently you knew I did. So why didn't you come to Smallville? You'd be welcomed there like my other siblings."

"There are more of us?" One of the boys asked in surprise. "Not just you two?"

Obviously they'd heard something and yet not much about her and things in Smallville.

"There's more of us than needed, to be honest." Cassie folded her arms over her chest. "If you decide to stay here I wouldn't cry. We don't need your bad attitude."

"Cassie, your attitude isn't much better." Whitney let out a sigh.

"Is he another one of us?" The blonde girl wanted to know, eyeing his blonde hair. "I mean, is he our brother?"

Whitney snorted. "No. I'm not."

"Brother-in-law, maybe." Cassie mumbled under her breath.

Chloe didn't quite catch what Cassie had said but didn't try too hard to do so, her eyes on the group who were between hostile and curious. She knew that it was best to leave for now and let them mull over what she'd said, but that didn't mean she planned on abandoning them. "I'm going to leave my number. If you change your minds and want to come to Smallville, please know that you are welcomed."

Cassie's face said otherwise but thankfully this time she stayed quiet.

"We won't change our minds." Harriet's voice was harsh. "We don't want or need you or your help."

Chloe yanked out the card she'd prepared in case this should happen, letting it drop to the ground. "If so, then it was nice meeting you and have a good life." She wasn't going to seem desperate and pushy.

Zod smirked, apparently getting what she was doing and approving. His gaze went to the group. "If you survive what is to come, then maybe you are right and you do not need her help." With that he turned and left.

Chloe did the same, the others following, no one sending a glance back at the others as they left.

"They're gone." Rudy Jones came back from where he'd been observing the group as they left. "They really just left." He narrowed his light blue eyes and ran his hand over his shortly cut dark blonde hair, his usually angry demeanor now more confused than anything else. "I was sure they were just pretending to leave to form some sort of counterattack and yet they really just left."

"I can't believe them just barging into our home like that and telling us what to do." Harriet growled, her claws growing longer from her glove as she clenched her fist tightly. "I just wanted to slash through them and kill them for that!" She shook with fury as she turned to the youngest in the group. "How did you not see this?"

Jordan Cross's gray eyes widened as he took a step back, brushing his brown hair from his face. "I-I-."

"Don't pick on him, Harriet." It was Sarah Conroy, Harriet's fraternal twin, who spoke, running her fingers through her dark hair and removing the long strands from her green eyes.

"What good is his power of precognition if it doesn't work?" She snarled it her. "He's basically useless in every other sense! His Sight is the only thing that has ever made him a useful part of this Circle!"

Jordan lowered his head, visibly hurt and ashamed.

"Now you're just being spiteful." Alicia, blonde and hazel-eyed, whispered.

"And you." Harriet turned on her. "What sort of idiot are you? I've alway known you were the stereotypical dumb blonde but I never thought you were so monumentally stupid as to tell them our names and other important information!"

Alicia flinched as she hugged herself. "They had the Balcoin mark. They're family."

"They might be blood but they are not family." Harriet's eyes darkened with her fury as she grabbed the card with the Firstborn's number, tearing it in two. "Have I made myself clear?"

"Have I ever told you how sexy you are when you're being a bitch?" Ian Randall, the only non-Balcoin, smirked at his girlfriend.

Rudy made a face and yet didn't comment on that particular exchange. "What's the game-plan?"

"There is none." Harriet stood tall. "We've done great without her or anyone else and that's the end of this discussion."

"I just think she should've taken us all, not gone so lightly guarded." Lucas' face was a huge frown as the group lounged on the porch of their home. "I'm her Hand, I should be there in case these mystery siblings turn out to be psychos." He made a face. "And I'm pissed at that only Darkseid members went with her. The Balcoin Circle should've been represented."

Mikhail lit a cigarette and blew out a ring of smoke. "Who needs them anyway? She should've just left them wherever the hell they were."

"That doesn't seem like something she would do." Bart waved his hand and destroyed the circle of smoke. "Chloe is very much the "Soul", just as her position as head of the Balcoin Circle is called. I think she's probably the most "soulful" of the Balcoin leaders is centuries."

"I know you guys are all grumbling and bitching about this, but I have something more important to talk about than your hurt egos." Greg stole a cigarette from Mikhail and lit it. "Ever heard of something called Devil's Spirit?"

Faye straightened and shared looks with Jake before her eyes turned on Greg. "Yeah, I have. Why?"

"Wait, what's Devil's Spirit?" Byron wanted to know, finally speaking and breaking his silence.

"It's a drug-highly addictive." Jake leaned forwards, eyes narrowed.

"Melissa overdosed on it once," Faye added softly.

"I've heard of this." Adam leaned back on his elbows on the steps to get a better glance at Jake, who was sitting behind him. "Apparently it increases extrasensory perceptions of an individual but is very dangerous and it's easy to overdose on it. People have died or ended up in comas."

Faye nodded. "Exactly."

Jake turned to Greg. "Don't tell me we have that shit here in Smallville."

"Wish I could say no, but I can't." Greg let out a sigh. "There seems to be someone peddling that shit around here somewhere, and we've been hearing cases of people getting ill. No one has gotten seriously hurt because of it, yet, but if we can't figure out who the dealer is and stop him or her we might have a huge problem on our hands."

Diana hugged herself as she curled in bed, feeling sick knowing that somewhere in this house the Dragon that'd taken over her father's body was resting as well. She hugged herself tighter and closed her eyes, trying to tell herself not to cry. She had to be strong. She had to be. Not only were they going to have to deal with this whole Dax-Ur situation, but there was the fact that there were other siblings who might be joining the fold-and Diana had only recently learnt to half-way trust the ones here already!

What if these other Balcoins had the Balcoin craziness worse than the ones in Smallville did? What if they weren't manageable? What if it was better for them never to meet?

So many questions tortured her, the brunette listening for the sound of a car, for Chloe to return, so she could know exactly what she had to deal with in their ever-changing world.

"You mind telling me where you two think you're going?"

Alicia froze as she turned towards that voice, holding tightly to Jordan's hand. "We were just, uh, going to get some food."

Sarah raised an eyebrow at them as she shook her head. "No. You weren't." She pushed away from the wall she'd been leaning on and emerged from the shadows, the moonlight bathing her skin. "You were going to disobey Harriet's orders and run to Smallville."

"No, we weren't." Jordan's voice was soft.

Alicia merely gulped.

Sarah sighed as she eyed them. "Do you understand how lucky you are that I found you and not her?"

"Sarah…" Alicia began.

"No. Don't." Sarah shook her head before she ran her fingers through her hair. "Can you two idiots manage to hotwire a car on your own or do you need my help?"

Jordan's eyes widened. "What-?"

"What? You thought I was going to tell on you?" Sarah snickered at their dumbfounded expressions. "If that was what I was going to do I would've told Harriet when I saw you two sneaking out."

"Why are you helping us?" Alicia wanted to know softly.

"Because unlike the rest of us, you two are not going to survive here." Sarah's voice was soft and sad. "You're not mean enough." She let out a sigh. "Unlike Harriet, I-." She let the rest of that sentence die as she cleared her throat. "She had kind eyes. That Firstborn. And the other sister with her seemed protective of her, not defensive towards her. They obviously have a different sort of dynamic than we do. It-it seemed nice."

Alicia stepped forwards. "Come with us."

Sarah gave her a sad smile. "I couldn't do that to Harriet. She's my twin." She took in a deep breath. "Now, the two of you get the hell out of here and don't come back. Harriet will never forgive you for this."

Jordan nodded as he grabbed his sister's hand and began dragging the blonde away with him.

"Thank you, Sarah." Alicia's voice was soft, tears in her eyes as she finally turned and hurried behind Jordan.

Sarah watched them go, a lump in her throat, her voice lost in the breeze as she whispered: "Goodbye."

Wow Sounds like Harriet takes after dear old Dad. I'm glad Alicia and Jordan have decided to take up Chloe's offer. Fingers crossed they get to Smallville ok. I feel bad for Sarah though.

Ah the magical war on drugs begins.

Wow. Harriet's a bitch. Good for those two siblings though. I'm glad at least some of them had a little sense. Great chapter! <3

Hope you're having a wonderful birthday today! :)
31st-May-2014 12:22 am (UTC) - so conflicted
Because the following are questions from past chapters that occurred to me after I reread only some segments... and I'm too lazy this time to go back and refer to exact chapters... I'm just gonna list them in no particular order. I don't expect you to answer them; since they might give away your future plans for this story ('cause even if you have been doing other stories, I have faith that you love your readers and will come back to The New Circle). Just putting these thoughts out there.

1. Do the other Houses have caves/dwellings like the Balcoins?

2. And if yes to question 1, would Chloe have control over Zantanna Le Fay's (sp?) magic vault? My logic is that technically the House of Le Fay falls under Chloe's domain. A. Zantana is the last Le Fay B. Zantanna being blood bound ties her life to Chloe...so maybe her magic is too.

3. Now, this one is pretty wild and out there. Was Chloe's magic hibernating after the other houses fell because she was molting? She may not have been dropping scales, but when her magic came back...hello plants from another dimension.
A. All the magic on earth is bound to Rao's blood, I remember the discussion that way. People correct me if I'm wrong. B. As his daughter Chloe could have been the nearest compatible magic receiver when witches were dieing.
C. The four pillars in her psyche. I'm guessing here: First, her personal pillar. Second, Darkseid (to include the dead first daughter that never hatched). Third, Balcoin. Fourth, Hibbins. Building on those guesses, which is really shaky and could be logical fallacy...I think the first pillar could allow other magics to be represented by it, since the other pillars are all combinations of other people's magics. We know that the wyvern in her symbol is because of the animal that dark Balcoin magic comes from, but the seven sided shape behind it hasn't really been explained.

4. Here's a not so biggie question, what was the animal that Balcoin magic originally came from, because the wyvern was only part of the dark magic that started with Francis, right? Just curious, if it was an animal that also changes its form like a butterfly transforms.
I think that Rao would give his offspring the best chance to be able to shift into dragons fully. So, it would follow that the original magic animal of the Balcoins was one that went under a transformation.
Moira, the wolf shifter, being chosen as Chloe's mom was probably a manipulation by Rao. Even though Rao had to search for Moira and unhatched Chloe in the alternate reality, I think that he had a pretty good idea of whom to look for since Rao doesn't seem the type to leave much to chance.

5. This isn't really a clear question. More of a, "You damn tease, here's how dizzy you've got me with the pairings." But dizzy in a toe curling, hot damn may I have another please way.
Zod says that he and Chloe are married since she released a harbinger in his presence. But She was releasing them left and right in Whitney's presence. Davis and Jason were also present when she released butterflies out of her mouth during the Legend of the Seeker. I'm gonna eliminate Davis and Jason though (which is hard considering how hot as you've made their respective chemistry with Chloe). Her dragon magic wasn't really active yet during Legend of the Seeker making those butterflies not marriage binders. But does bring up her weird link to Van. Which I'm not going to get into till you give us more info.
Note: I didn't mention Lex, because, as yummy and electric you have him and Chloe's interactions, Lex is the child of Lionel. The same Lionel that is dedicated to the other big bad dragon currently possessing Diana's dad. Sidenote: I am just loving any interaction Chloe has with Oliver.
So back to the question of Chloe's future babies daddy/daddies. I think you've mentioned in reply to someone else that there's only one hot foine (spelling intentional) man for Chloe. I'm cheering for Chitney, but I'm totally enjoying the jockeying for her affections.
