I hate you. I mean don't get me wrong. I love you, but right now, I really hate you. I kept looking away and telling myself not to read it but I couldn't and now...guh! I'm almost crying, it's ridiculous. I have to go read something soppy right now. So, you know, hate.

AWE!! I feel so bad for Arthur, but then kinda like 'that's what you get!', but mostly bad. And I'm glad that Merlin was happy in the end, cause he deeserves to be. Mordred, oh Mordred, I love him smirking at Arthur when no one else is looking, it shows the age gap and his slightly evil side, though generally I think he's adorable personified.
Great writing as usual, not overdone unreadable angst, brilliance!

thanks! I do feel bad for Arthur too, but I also enjoy that slightly evil side of Mordred and him getting his way! *as seen in this oneshot* Thanks for taking time out and commenting! Have a great night! :D

That was great; though I feel sad for Arthur, but it was a nice take for the notion of Mordred killing Arthur ♥
28th-Aug-2009 02:57 am (UTC)
Yeah, I couldn't make Mordred ACTUALLY kill Arthur, because I couldn't see Merlin ever getting with the man who killed his king---so this was a good alternative!

I read this on a whim, with some trepidation because I normally don't stray outside of Merlin/Arthur. But...
I finished this story and a shiver went up my spine. I actually teared up during the scene between Arthur and Mordred. This was good, so good.
And it hurt so badly. I absolutely adored Mordred. That perfect mix of eager, worshipful, and fucking evil. Full of malice and spite, and absolutely perfect.
Arthur's pain was like a knife to my gut. The fact that he and Gwen couldn't even conceive just made it all worse. Pointless and heart wrenching.
Poor Merlin. D=

GOOD JOB. *applauds*

omg THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE FEEDBACK! It made my night! And I'm so thrilled that you enjoyed this (especially Mordred's eager, worshipful, EVIL ways) despite usually only reading merlin/arthur.

This had about everything.
Could be good to have some comedic scenes to counterpart all of the madness around but it really is a great piece of work.
Love the two magic scenes with the gold speck began to fall down around them like snow and the millions of golden pixies btw.

I was considering it, but the darker tone that I was going for would make comedy seem out of place. I tried imagining the pixie scene myself....

Oh Arthur!
(At least Merlin's happy) T.T

haha! That face at the end of the comment makes me feel guilty and a little scared! lol

Liked the twist on "killing Arthur". Instead of mortally wounding him, Mordred killed the love Merlin had for Arthur, by replacing Arthur with his love. Very well done.
28th-Aug-2009 11:23 am (UTC)
I'm glad you did! I don't think I could have killed him for real, so this was the best alternative! And I think this might have even been more cruel now that I think about it! -.-'
Mm, mm, delicious! ^_^

Seriously, though, the slow change of Merlin's attitude and yet the consistency of Mordred's feelings were great. The way Merlin was always called 'Emrys' by Mordred as the POV was awesome, and I love how at the end, Merlin's feelings genuinely shift from Arthur to Mordred. (Makes sense that Geoffrey missed out on all the Merlin/Arthur, now. ;D).

Seriously, though, awesome fic!
The title of this comment made me choke on the water I was drinking when I read it! lolololololololol
Yay! I tried to be consistent with the Emrys (you have NO idea how many "Merlin" I had to erase and replace!) and try to make the Mordred/Merlin as slow as possible to make it halfway believable and somewhat make this story cannon and not cannon at the same time. lol Thanks for the comment!

That was interesting-I loved the twist of Mordred killing Arthur but not literally killing him-it's a nice interruption of the prophesy.

thank you! I'm glad you approve!

Wow! I don't believe I've ever read any Merlin/Mordred before but with this as a first, wow! In this I was completely and utterly persuaded away from my usual Merlin/Arthur to hope and be very satisfied with the Merlin/Mordred outcome,

Wow! I don't believe I've ever read any Merlin/Mordred before but with this as a first, wow! In this I was completely and utterly persuaded away from my usual Merlin/Arthur to hope and be very satisfied with the Merlin/Mordred outcome, I love the way you described the interaction and the binding of their magic and the consequences and responsibilities of kingship. Really good job!

Really? I'm glad that in the end you were rooting for Merlin/Mordred despite usually loving Arthur/Merlin! I have to admit, it was a little hard to write the parts with Arthur because it hurt to hurt him, but Arthur will always put the kingdom before anything else---which is why I usually write AU.

You're fast becoming my favorite author. :) I really like the story ideas you come up with. I like the way you developed the Mordred/Merlin relationship in this. It was done very believably and I found myself hoping they'd work out if only for Merlin to be happy after Arthur's decision to marry Gwen.

I have to admit, I still felt heartbroken for the Arthur/Merlin break-up. At least they managed to make amends so that they remained friends, but you know still...

All the same, that was a nice way to interpret the prophecy - that it meant Mordred would figuratively kill Arthur. It worked. Poor Arthur! :(

Thank you so much for that review---so much lovely feedback! I love Arthur/Merlin so much that I went into this torn between Merthur/Merdred and I think it showed it the writing, since a lot of the readers felt torn too! I felt bad leaving Arthur like that, but he'd made his decision and had to live with it.

Oh this one was great. Mordred "killing" Arthur so appropriate he so totally deserved it! Oh and I loved the eavesdropping. Eavesdropping? Count me in xD!!! At some points I would've liked to throw up right into the center of Arthur's face and shout at him: "You have no backbone you miserable copy of a monarch! Have you never heard of absolutism or Louis XIV?!" And then I'd feel bad and be all: "Sorry I forgot he's not born yet >.<" I liked Mordred/Merlin really much and the friendship (and the eavesdropping!) with Morgana. BUT I couldn't enjoy reading the graphic parts, they just made me feel sick to my stomach, even though it's not your fault I just can't have Merlin or Arthur fucking or kissing anyone *shudders* (looooong and complicated background ^^)
29th-Aug-2009 03:47 pm (UTC)
hahahaha, I'm so glad that you enjoyed this, though I'm curious about the complicated background story as to why you don't like to read Arthur or Merlin getting it on.... o.O lol Thanks for this comment, gave me my first real smile of the day!

I've very recently realised that there really are no such thing as an OTP. Might sound silly, but in every fandom I've basically had people who seemed to be meant to be together. I've not been one of those crazy people who wants to riot everytime another ship is visible along the horizon, but I've had my clear preferences and the (romantic?) notion that this is right.
But it's all just circumstantial really´isn't it? Sometimes things happen, choices are made, the point of no return is crossed, and all we can do is keep moving forward.
Pardon for the bit of the rant (more is coming as well), but this was just such an excellent illustration of what I'd just come to realise.
Merlin and Arthur might be destined to be together, but who said destiny is always right and how exactly that destiny is supposed to be fulfilled. And things can get a lot fucked up in the process, though fucked up is just another persons view of perfect.

I loved this story. It's beautiful. Painful too, sure, I like Arthur. But I think it's one of my new favourites. Merlin is not *meant* to be with either Mordred or Arthur, at least not as a lover. But he *can* be with both, though he chose *one*. And the reasons for that choice was so deliciously angsty.
I read another comment saying that Mordred was evil. I wouldn't call him that. He just has his view on the perfect OTP still. And I don't agree with the heartbreaking comments either I think. Merlin is happy, Mordred is happy, Arthur... made his choice.

And now I will stop rambling at you and go to bed, lol.
Thanks for sharing this lovely, lovely story.

Thank you so much for this comment! It really made my day! It made me smile and nod during parts of it, and think curiously during others!
Have a great day! :D
